Well mine was an original Dynavector 10x fitted to a TD160 Mk2 Do you remember when Dynavector cartridges were branded Ultimo? I had a 20A way back in the late 1970s.

Can't say i do Martin, are you sure it wasn't a name used in other countries?

It was definitely used in the UK. The name Dynavector only came later.

Yep, I recall Ultimo preceding Dynavector. And, yes, I'm even older than Martin.
One of my favourite carts, the 10x5. Not as accurate as the more expensive Dynas, but it had a bouncy enthusiasm that was hard to beat.

Yes a friend of mine has a 10x5 on a VPI deck which is an excellent combo.

A B&O that came with the B&O deck.
I replaced it with a diamond cantilever version which I believe was £60.
Long time ago but even then I believe it was cheap really. Not many carts around with diamond cantilevers!

My first cartridge was whatever was stuck on a Dansette record player which I was soon told ruined any records and was thus upgraded to a Sonotone something or other which in hindsight probably wasn’t much better. But I was only 12 at the time....

My parents had a Dansette with a 2025TC deck and Sonotone cartridge. It wasn't great, but I was the only one who ever used it.

My first deck was a Garrard AP76, a step up from the SP25 my Dad had.
Can't remember exactly, but the cartridge was probably one of the cheaper M75 (?) Shure variations.

Quite fancied one for the Hadcock I had on a 160B, but too expensive. Got a shagged 10X2 a few months ago thinking of getting it repaired, but the 3 and up could only be guaranteed to be repaired. Seems the design was made more robust after the 2.

I still have the follow-up, a Dynavector 20A2, which I always wanted to get re-tipped but never did. Pretty rare these days.

I had a long lasting love affair with DV carts. DV23RS > DV17D3 > XX1L > 10x5 among others The XX1L was the most expensive and the least enjoyable, big disappointment, very ordinary it seemed devoid of the DV Magic. The most accurate were the 17D series, the most fun was the 10x5.

The 17D was so relatively accurate it sounded like listening to good CD.
