I have a fully Audio tuned Teac VRDS 25X which has both original Oscillator Circuits are replaced with XO Clock3 SE Oscillator Modules and numerous other modifications. This feeds directly into the SEG via the COAX. I have no other output on the TEAC VRDS 25X than the COAX. I'm using Mark Grant top of the range Oyaide FTVS-510 pure silver digital coax fitted with WBT 0110 Ag. The SEG is powered with a simple 15V linear PSU from China. The TEAC cd player and SEG run through my PS Audio P10.
This forms my CD replay system and some time ago I did consider installing an atomic clock to the TEAC but I'm interested in trying the XO mod on the DAC alongside Tony @ Coherent's mods. I'm hoping that this will be (for the time being) the end of my digital upgrades.
So I have a few questions.
1. Which section of the SEG board specifically controls the COAX output and can a XO module be used to improve things further? 2. Is the XO Clock 3.2 module the correct module to use? 3. The Teac operates on 16.9344 MHz, so is the correct CD operating frequency I need to order when purchasing the XO module? 4. Should I order and install the very latest SEG11 firmware? 5. I'm probably going to get the SEG modded by Tony to his level 2 spec (TONY HOPE YOUR READING THIS), so Tony, is there a specific optimised version of your SEG mods just to work with the COAX output as this is the only output I'm likely to use. I don't intend buying a new CD player.
I understand things can be markedly improved with Stan's and Tony's latest PSU's but I'd like to try these mods first before spending more money on the digital route, I spend all my time (well 95%) listening to vinyl.
I look forward to any responses.
Thanks
Andrew

Sorry Andrew, but it's a forum and we all have lives! I'll try and answer as best I can: 1. Which section of the SEG board specifically controls the COAX output and can a XO module be used to improve things further? Do you mean the co-ax (S/PDIF) input? See my superclocking the SEG article as I have done just that, and the XO2.2 module has done tremendous things to sound quality. 2. Is the XO Clock 3.2 module the correct module to use? No, the XO2.2 is the correct one. You cannot re-clock the S/PDIF input as it has already arrived so that part of the 3.2 is redundant. 3. The Teac operates on 16.9344 MHz, so is the correct CD operating frequency I need to order when purchasing the XO module? Now I'm confused. are you reclocking the Teac or the SEG? Different clocks. 4. Should I order and install the very latest SEG11 firmware? I have the GFU-10 firmware which works well. You'd need to ask stanleyb what the SEG11 firmware brings to the party. Calling @tonyc

As Martin mentioned some us actually work strange concept I know Quick response I am in the middle of a delicate project that requires some very tricky board placement of components and oven cooking! 16.9334Mhz is the clock frequency for 44.1Khz ala standard red book, and TEAC/ Wadia digital output, the outputs could have multiple clock frequencies. However the TEAC will output that one Frequency only (that model the P30 used to output 48Khz), now whether your dac has up-sampling potential is a different matter, though that is done internally. For best contact a phone call is recommended 'Not difficult' as Mordin Solus would say in Mass Effect 2 other things could be 'Problematic' Our clocks will be ready next week the boards have been done, just waiting for the clocks themseleves now.

Tracking geometry and distortion, tracking weight, tracking distortion, stylus profile, rake angle, azimuth, wow, flutter, rumble, offset holes, surface noise, warp induced wow, hum, phono amp noise...

LOL - yes surface noise can be a bugger but thankfully I haven't worried about any of the rest for a long time.

Have spent all my money on a SEG, Coherent System's mods: Stage 1 + 2, a clock upgrade, Supercapped PSU, cable. Then an SR Red fuse, Halide Design S/PDIF Bridge USB-S/PDIF converter, and have chokes coming, as well as Black Discus samples.
That's enough for awhile.
I won't be able to tell which of these are best. When it all arrives nearer the end of the month, I'm going to burn it all in, load up my reference tracks, and bliss out!

In my experience it all takes time to burn in. Things start to get really good after 100 hours or so.
Enjoy!

It's £10 plus VAT if ordered with my supercap PSU, or £15 plus VAT and postage if ordered on its own. 5.

In my experience it all takes time to burn in. Things start to get really good after 100 hours or so. Enjoy! I have some impressions... (SEG + supercaps + internal clock, Coherent PSU + supercaps, SR Red fuse, SEG-22 firmware) Has been played for approx 100 hours continuously, plus the 80 hours before being shipped. I tried 40 hours ago - ugh! The treble was harsh and unpleasant. Patience required... Luckily had been warned. Now sitting down on a Sunday afternoon; a 17˚C sunny spring afternoon, on a long weekend. A craft beer in hand, NBA on a laptop, good wife (Jane) watching Netflix on the other couch. So not critical listening, just absorbing, enjoying, relaxing. Excuse my non-audiophile way of describing things. With no auditory mates to do this with, I have to describe things in my own words... No-one to say, "ah, you mean decay, resonance" etc Playing David Sylvian: Secrets of the Beehive (from Macbook Pro/Audirnana + via toslink). Must be close to 30 years old. An album I know very well. The treble has settled. No longer grating. First thing I notice is the space between the music. So much space (Notting Hill, or The Castle? How's the serenity?). Hearing small things I hadn't caught before. Two huge things through the week - bass has been more clearly defined. Has been easy to follow the bass player - pleasantly so. And starting to notice the tone of the drums - has changed the listening. A change in audible timbre. Instrument separation has improved dramatically. Each piece is easy to follow; multiple instruments and how each contribute to the whole. (Thanks Martin for the Joanna Newsom link. Listened a few times to that one). But biggest impression? Hearing what the artist/producer intended. An accuracy of production. Closer to their intent. If you hadn't guessed, I'm starting to like this very much.

Yes it is pretty impressive what it all does. It is a really big step up and for me just makes the music flow better

More impressions... Can set playlist on Audirvana on my phone
Watching the Detectives - crisp!
Mirror Ball by Everything But the Girl - the sheer weight of the base
Who's that Girl - the balance of the production, clarity of Annie's voice
Eyeless in Gaza- Knives Replace the Air - still hard to comprehend the lyrics, but all elements meld smoothly.
Fast Car - Tracy Chapman - base is so rich
Limp Biskit - My Way - way more musical than I remember - not a favourite, but my family liked it
Sarah McClachlan - Angel - clarity of her voice. The beauty of the song shines through even more.
The Drowning Man - The Cure - slightly different presentation - more coherent? Bass is more secure...

Yes the bass really tightens up. Drums should be fuller, treble more natural and the soundstage just huge.
