Think you will really like what you got. Did you get the clocked updated too. I think that will be my next upgrade

Tony had it playing in the showroom on Monday "sounding good" he said. For me, that is more than likely to be sounding awesome! He has a few SEG upgrades he's working on at the moment. As mentioned, it's a 'once in a lifetime' chance for me to get this work done. Postage from New Zealand is very expensive.

Figured out how to sort my work system, when the SEG arrives for home.
Have bought an M2Tech Hiface 2. Take USB out of my Macbook. Then I will take my Bushmaster II (with venom/serum mods) to work. Into a Plinius pre/power amp and Mission 780 speakers.
The Bushmaster II is an awesome sounding Dac. Smooth, quiet, articulate.
For a classroom, the sound is pretty good!

For the superclock you'll probably find 'Mode 1 DAC chip XTAL clock signal' to sound the best.

Brett's turned up earlier. Right I did spend some time listening to this. Mode 1 (one blink) for the Xtal setting, improved spaciousness, a minor wiping of the window (overall detail improves) and more smoother presentation, it also felt more ethereal as well. Compared to GU10 firmware Tried with Spotify,Tidal and local stored files up to 192Khz. This is exploiting the aftermarket clocks virtues better imho. Nice little upgrade Stan thank you

Agreed, I'm listening now and Mode 1 (one flash) on the SEG-22 sounds a little more dynamic with some more presence than Mode 1 (two flashes) on the GFU-10. In fact, dynamics with this firmware and the superclock are knockout, especially noticeable on side-drums and the like where each strike is differentiated in the power of the stroke. I've never heard this level of detail in transients before, made even greater with the new Black Cat interconnect.

There we go, now with installed SEG22 firmware.

I thought I was on the list. It's a long list and I wait for 24 hours before moving to the next person on the list if I get no reply. Hi Stan, OK. I'll wait to hear from you. I'll take an updated chip along with the power supply.

There we go, now with installed SEG22 firmware. I think that's my one! And posted tomorrow. Should have it by Wednesday of next week. ...I'm so excited. And I just can't hide it...

You should enjoy that, Brett. Remember to put a good few hours on it before listening too closely.

Brett
If you see this before you mail, can you get in touch please a.s.a.p.
Thanks
I have put just over 120 hours on both the psu and dac, so should only need another 50 or so before the clock settles.

Brett I have put just over 120 hours on both the psu and dac, so should only need another 50 or so before the clock settles. My system is easy to leave running through the day. My Perreaux runs warm, so I plug my Grado SR1s into the Dac (currently Bushmaster II) Have just put 280 hours on the SR Red fuse this way. Will run the new SEG for two weeks. Over 300 hours... On holiday for two weeks from tomorrow (school teacher). Some of the non-contact time will be spent listening.

John and I were evaluating Stan's new SEG-30 firmware over the weekend. He has completely rewritten the code around clock optimisation for the different modes. Without giving the detail of each mode (I'll leave that to Stan), Mode C (three LED flashes) was written to optimise sound quality for those of us with superclocks installed. It also includes the anti-glitch code for when streams start after loss of lock. Finally, LED dimming has been reinstated for when lock is achieved.
The new firmware does a few things that are quite apparent as soon as you install it: it helps to separate strands of music and make then clearer and more intelligible, even in a busy mix. I gave an example in my blog of a cow bell and rain stick making simultaneous sounds: with SEG-30, it was far more obvious that two different instruments were being struck together. Secondly, it really takes the superclock accuracy and gives a metronomic precision to beats and rhythms. Songs as different as Roxy Music's The Space Between and Surinder Sandhu's Re-Visited acquire incredible rhythmic drive. Thirdly, dynamics are superb, something that has taken time to mature in the SEG but which is now first class. It's easier to distinguish each drum strike as being slightly different, perhaps hitting a slightly different patch of skin, each time. This is a level of detail that I have just not heard before, and better differentiates between electronic and real drums.
Marvellous stuff and a credit to Stan's firmware development skills.

This echoes my own experience It took a few tracks to settle. Instruments are cleaner your able to hear what going on in complex mixes. The differences are quite obvious. Also has a bit more impact than before. Amazing what good coding can do

This SEG-30 is obviously an improvement over the SEG-22 I bought last week?

All we are waiting for now is the SEG144 upgrade which dispenses with power supplies and cables altogether Now how about those chaps that have just purchased that last great upgrade GU22 will they now have to pay again?
