I often read JBLs described as 'fun'. I guess this could be good or it could also mean they are enjoyable but not quite good or serious enough to be considered as long-term speakers in a primary system ...

I had my L-100T for about 4 years and loved them. They were fun in a good way, always lifted the music and provided a driving rhythm and punchy bass.

These speakers have certainly been generating quite a lot of interest; I would certainly like to hear them. Have you bought a pair Clive? Not bought a pair but I borrowed the pair from the Northwest Audio Show. Hence the review that's out in a couple of days at enjoythemusic. The JBL fun that Martin describes is very much what the Krlaks do - you can't help but boogie to what they play; that said they also work with more emotional music eg Adagio for Strings, Barber and Bernstein versions; the differences between them were very apparent.

I'd had a pair of audiophile-approved Kharma Ceramique 3 (£5k rrp at the time) for getting on for 2 years, and they hit most of the audiophile spots very nicely, and I enjoyed them as well! But when the time came to move on (I was young(er) and impatient back then ) a pair of JBL L110 Monitors just happened to come along at a very low used price and I thought 'what the hell?' and went for them not anticipating they would satisfy this classical listener. They surprised - no, amazed - me. They made the Kharma sound a bit drab and lifeless while retaining their tonal accuracy - the JBLs were always full of the life and joy of the music. JBLs always seem to be touted as great rock music speakers, I think those L110 were simply great speakers. IIRC I only moved them on when a 'big panel itch' struck again and I bought some hooge Martin Logan cls2z full range stats. They certainly changed my perception of what JBLs were capable of.

I heard a pair of the new JBL's recently and must admit I was disappointed having read online reviews. For me the Tannoy Legacy range is a big step up (I have Ardens).
