There have been many discussions on the forums about types of turbo implementation in cars. As I recall, Saab are of the 'bang in the torque' variety as soon as the turbo has spun up to speed. That's what gives you the head snap! Head snap in a what 150-200 bhp per tonne car - hehe. You obviously haven't had a spin in a 2.3L SAAB fitted with the Mitsubishi TD-04 turbo. 258 ft·lb at a mere 1900 rpm is scary if you put your foot down a bit too fast. It's a two hands on the steering wheel white knuckle ride.

The torque between 2000-5000rpm in my old remapped BMW 335d twin turbo was mad: 740nm (545ft.lb). Now that was head snapping!

Up until six years ago it was for myself (road cars) always petrol, the bike I use is 302 bhp @rear wheel does takes some hanging onto if you wring the throttle a touch!
Diesels done correctly can be very entertaining if a somewhat over stressing for the rear tires. My weekend ride is now just over 1000f/lbs of torque around the 2800 zone, still averaging around 35 mpg if I drive at a Meridian owners pace well over 40mpg is possible Though if a little heavy on the right foot them rear tires can disappear in under 1000 miles.
What ever you drive/ride/pilot enjoy it as some red taped eurocrat will take it away at some point lol

To put it into perspective, you'd need a 788bhp (with associated torque) motor in that Saab to have the same accelerative force. Now ludicrous mode is worth mentioning

Indeed one of those big elastic band powered things kept up with the bike for a good 300 yards quite impressed, sub 3 sec figures seem fair with that instant grunt machine

Be interesting to see what the likes of Lotus and McLaren ( if they still exist by then), can come up with..

The one issue with Tesla's for me is the build quality not as good as you think!

Just think if we good design a power pack for a Caterham style car, that produced even half the horsepower, but with the ultra low COG due to the battery configuration now that I would consider!

Mulled over the idea of Tesla. What I found said forget that idea. Very expensive 2nd hand. Saw nothing under £40k As above not good handling and not so good build quality. Typical US car then, fast in a straight line. The end

I have first hand experience of the Tesla S as my subcontractors are leasing a new one.
Firstly it is fast, very fast. It does handle as well as an AMG E63 and that's good enough for most people, the weight is very low giving a low center of gravity. The interior is not as good as an E Class. I think they are designed to be leased and insured with Tesla then there are no issues.
