A four from me. I was never a big fan, they were just another band I liked, not loved. I'd forgotten Ozzie's quite good harmonica playing.

Only a four from Paul - I'm going to write to my MP asking for an independent investigation into this outrage ...

The canny amongst you may have spotted that ALL the score descriptions would make Black Sabbath happy!

Hesitant to try this, having a go now.
I lived in Birmingham when it came out and the YMCA manager's son was obsessed by them. Being Brummies helped. Not for me at the time. After a listen who knows

Dio was a far better vocalist than Ozzy by a country mile, however as John points out Ozzy is much better suited to the black country meanderings of the birth of doom metal. Fist Sabbath concert was at the Hammy Odeon on May 8th (Thursday night) 1980 on the Heaven and Hell tour, I remember Kim from Girl-school getting the audience somewhat hot under the collar Stunning gig Sabbath firing on all eight cylinders plus Girlschool doing a damn fine warm up

Technically Dio was a far better vocalist but I would listen to Ozzy every time if I had the choice. I much prefer his Sabbath and solo material to Dio and not so keen on Dio's more theatrical sword and scocery approach ... Ozzy rules.

Fist Sabbath concert was at the Hammy Odeon on May 8th (Thursday night) 1980 on the Heaven and Hell tour... I am struggling a bit to remember, but I think I had a ticket for the show in Brighton the day before that. It was cancelled or rescheduled for later in the year - somewhen or other in the summer. Again in Crawley (Crawley Leasure Centre... eek!) in Feb 81. They were pretty ropey that night probably because the venue sounded like a cow shed. The support band were Tank! The first Brighton gig was just a few days after Rush also played the Brighton Centre, on the Permanent Waves tour. What a week!

Fist Sabbath concert was at the Hammy Odeon on May 8th (Thursday night) 1980 on the Heaven and Hell tour, I remember it well a great gig and still have the pics somewhere, I'll have to dig out the negs and scan them. Interesting typo in the use of the word "Fist" rather than, I assume "First". Before the gig, in the little pub round the back of the Hammy Odeon. A music biz journo, who shall remain nameless, had slagged off the band with Dio. He walked up to Tony Iommi hand outstreched to say hello and got twatted for his trouble.

I would love to see those photos Paul! Hi Chris, OK I have 8 four drawer filling cabinets, plus a stack of archive boxes, it's about 20k negs and transparencies, about 3k are scanned. If you want to come and sort them out and find the negs, I'll scan and print them. I have loads of music stuff from the 70s and 80s some is with a features agency, but most is waiting 'til I retire to get scanned. My 60s stuff was duped to transparencies is still in the picture library.

Hi Paul Fist was just a typo, but relevant to Dio I guess! I am going to make a guess it with either Finn Costello or Malcolm 'the wiredo' Dome later editor of Kerrang, I did see him at one point at the gig, one ugly spud even then lol

Do you know, I had never really listened to much Black Sabbath until about 2 or 3 years ago. This one popped up somewhere as one of those albums you just had to hear and own, so I gave it a whirl and it is quite special.
I am no great fan of Ozzy's voice, but it just works on this album. An easy 5/5 from me.

It's good when that happens. I remember Alex over on AoS never having heard Crime of the Century. We were scratching our heads over that one. I seem to remember he rather liked it.

It is a four from me I prefer masters of reality particularly Sweet Leaf Though Geezer/Ward really has a solid under pinning of Sabs music without question I saw the finial concert and really felt Geezer was playing the bass line he did back in the early days bend those vu meters my boy

They never really did it for me. I was taken when I saw them very early on 1970 I guess. Stunning. When I got the first album it wasn't quite as good as them live but still loved it
