A bit left of field for me , Soft Rock not a genre I have pursued and back in 1972 when this was released I would not have given it ear space but things change , we change , I changed . So America , I knew they had a massive hit record with "A Horse With No Name" and that was all I knew. Fast forward to the vinyl revival 2011? and I'm reading Hi-Fi News and their album re-issue of the month feature is America - Homecoming , America's second album , not long after at a hi-fi show I was thumbing the vinyl and I came across it so bought it. It's mellow , melodic , tuneful it's soft rock in fact I think America invented the genre , you cannot get better soft rock than America The album has become an old (new) friend , when I'm not sure what to play I play this.

Wow - this takes me back to the tender age of 16. An American cousin of mine was staying with my family for a few months and she came armed with this album. I loved it. Years - decades! - since I played it - will it still hold its magic? I'll let you know.

I normally like my rock on the harder side but this is rather intriguing and I've never even heard of them!

A friend of mine went to Canada, heard 'A Horse With No Name' and came home a big, big fan of America. He couldn't stop going on about the track and he rushed out at the first opportunity to buy an album. He came back with this one because it was all they had in the biggest record shop in the area - HMV in Churchill Square, Brighton.
He was extremely disappointed to say the least. I played him 'Everybody Knows This is Nowhere', pointing out that his favourite track was pretty much a Neil Young pastiche. That did the trick, as he's still the biggest Neil Young fan I know!
Apart from all that, this album is not bad at all. I haven't heard it in years though, so I shall reacquaint myself with it before commenting further.

You must have heard 'A Horse With No Name'?! ...surely? It never appeared on the first album "America" (1971) , released as a single in 1972 and becoming a world wide hit the album was re-issued to include it . I have recently bought the first three albums on SACD .

I'm looking forward to revisiting this. Ventura Highway was always a favourite of mine. For those that know the name, two of the famous "Wrecking Crew" provide the rhythm section for this album.

Listening to this is a bit of a homecoming. There is an easy delivery reminiscent of Barclay James Harvest and The Eagles with the vocals of Poco. Very nice to listen to, there is just nothing not to like. Highly representative of the genre, not a bad thing at all. 5/5.

I'm going to give it four out of five. It's just that tiny bit too "polite" for me now. It did bring back some memories though, and I now need to re-listen to their first album...and their third probably.

Excellent album - I give it 4/5, but only so I could give their first album 5/5. Lovely mix of acoustic and electric guitars. To me America (the first album), contrary to most people's thoughts, is a bit more adventurous, heartfelt and ground-breaking and I really like the more extended instrumental solos.

I like America. Haven’t heard this one You're in for a treat Paul it's their best ! Honestly, I am not sure about this one at the moment. I will play it again, but having listened to it a couple of times so far, and I can't decided how I would rate it. It has a lot of good qualities, but there is something about it I am not sure about.

Really enjoyed this, thanks for posting … an easy 4 for me, so many great songs!
Might just have to buy it.
Just noticed that the band is doing a gig in London later this year.
