Has anyone had any experiences with this speaker?
It gets love online and good reviews as well.

I can't answer your question but thought a nice picture would be good!

Thanks Chris! Jules, they’re a bit pretty aren’t they. The ones I’m trying to procure are all piano gloss black; a special finish not normally available. Tbh I think I prefer some of the veneers, but I’m buys by ex-demo, otherwise these are waaaay out of my price range (still might be, we’ll see). I’ve been informed by someone (whose opinion I value) that they are very forward sounding and I should avoid them. I’ve read so much positive press and opinions around them that it’s hard not to be tempted by the prospect of owning them. I guess it boils down to the old you have to demo them yourself, in your home, to really know. No option here, as they’re going to ship from California... I welcome any thoughts/experiences here

To open the discussion up a bit, perhaps people can tell me any experiences / thoughts that have on transmission line (T/L) speakers in general - good or bad? Here is one of the actual speakers I'm in the process of buying: IMG_1407 by Martin Johnson, on Flickr

Transmission line speakers can give you a very extended bass response, although they fall away rapidly below the cut-off frequency. They usually require a power amp with some grip to control them. Positioning is important in order to integrate them well into the room.

Thanks Martin; interesting to know. These are -3db @ 20hz so have low-end extension.

sO, DID YOU BUY THEM? I never got a chance to hear them either but have seen some with wood grain finish that were stunning to look at!Reviews claim they're very sensitive and tube friendly. I don't really go by what others say about how speakers sound anymore since my room imparts its own will and speakers NEVER sound the same down here.

I have always had a soft spot for Transmission line speakers due to my Father owning a pair of IMF ALS-40's when I was younger. They can sound very good but I have always found the bass to be a bit plumy and generally slower than more conventional speakers.

I've been struggling with the plumy bit - how can you hear that something is heavily adorned with feathers?
The generally slower thing I do get. On the rare occasions I've heard IMF speakers (and thankfully it has been rarely) I've thought the bass to be semi-detached from the rest of the sound. They almost manage to play music, but not quite.

Orry, Me spelin as alaways beeen pritty nafff! Weirdly enough that comes across as perfectly understandable. Plumy does not. I could guess at what you're trying to get across, but then that would be my guess, and my guess could easily be incorrect. Which means I'm still at the same point. What do you mean by plumy?

I think I mean the equivilant of lumpy sounding, too full, limiting detail.

I think he meant plummy (double 'm' changes the sound of the 'u').
