A quite stunning performance by 19 year old cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason during the Royal Wedding today. There was some lovely music in the service but his tone and presence is just remarkable; that Faure he played was really something. So pleased that I bought tickets early to see him in recital later this year, I don't think there will be many seats left now

I knew it. This is a stealth Royal Wedding post. I shall try and hear him though; I see he's on Spotify, as well as Amazon Music.

Never mind that, listen to his performance at the wedding ...

The sound on that is very "boomy," Jules. This is slightly better...

I've been trying to avoid everything to do with that event!

Nope! I may do later on.

Try my Spotify link, Martin. The sound isn't great on the 'wedding' tracks, but it does have the benefit of being audio only.

I've just been looking at the BBC text and it appears he's one of the few people to have profited from the Royal Wedding. His album "Inspiration" is currently sitting at #11 in the charts and is already the best-selling classical album of 2018. It's also at #1 in the Classical Artists Album Chart.
"It's been a crazy week, with my college exams straight after!" he told the Official Charts Company

Picked this up yesterday on the DECCA label. It's an OK pressing but not as good as I'd hoped. Worth £20 though.

Cool - what wasn't up to scratch about it, selection of music, performance?

Tracks are fine, performance is fine but I have a fair bit of surface noise. Not crackling or popping, more like it's low level recorded so volume had to be higher meaning I can hear the noise from the stylus dragging on the record surface. It's only minor gripe but worth mentioning Cool - what wasn't up to scratch about it, selection of music, performance?

Looks like they did a quick and dirty vinyl job then, for 20 quid a go they should take more care with the transfer IMO.

I would!
If you are interested in a proper 'audiophile' cello pressing then you should check out Pure Cello by Vincent Belanger. He's the chap who is currently employed by Audio Note to play at their demos. I heard it at a show last year and was very impressed ...
