Indeed, there are some very inflated prices for Deccas on ebay and everywhere else.
I am more than happy to buy Londons at more sensible prices if the chance arises, but don't believe I have any in my collection at the moment - must check!

I would agree that a lot of the BIN prices are overly optimistic but most of the very high prices paid are auctions with low start prices and it is the market that is driving it. The most desirable SXL's usually average around the £1k mark but that is nothing in comparison to some of the ASD's and then there are Columbia SAX records that sell for insane amounts. And then we get to the French mono recordings............ Fortunately a lot of these expensive recordings can be found on reissues or less desirable contemporary labels and can sometimes better the originals quite significantly.

Many thanks for posting this excellent blog - I didn't include "Living Stereo" in my original guide ...

I've a few Decca SXL's that have white labels. None of them are marked as demonstration only or test pressings, so what are they? Radu Lupu playing Beethoven Sonatas SXL 6576 in normal black/silver and the white label version

The Decca pressed Vox Turnabout series has some great recordings that can be found for little money. Pressing quality is always excellent. The early records can be found with the same grooved pressing as the early Deccas

The early records can be found with the same grooved pressing as the early Deccas There are a number of Vox Turnabout LPs that are audiophile quality. I have particularly liked the recordings engineered by Aubort and Nickrenz. Really outstanding sound quality. Take, for example, the complete Ravel orchestral works conducted by Skrowaczewski. You can find these on ebay for cheap, and the sound beats pretty much any recording of these works, including those of Cluytens, Martinon, Ozawa, etc. Very natural sounding recordings.

That's interesting - I have one of his and I didn't know it ... I bought it to help me complete my Sibelius collection - a most groovy cover and yes, it's a very nice recording indeed!
