Tonight I'm drinking German Pinot Noir.
I thought it would prove interesting but it isn't. In a blind tasting you would mark it down as something like a NZ Marlborough Pinot. So a bit generic - certainly very pleasant and drinkable but no sense of the Germanic terroir I was hoping for ...

Any rum drinkers out there?
I discovered the proper local stuff on holiday and am now a fan.

Yes, love a drop of good rum. I tried many superb examples in St Lucia and still love island rum.

Dark rum was the first spirit I ever drank, and Captain Morgan's was my tipple of choice for a few years, until I discovered Brandy. This was a decent drop; from Nicaragua, very smooth, almost like a single malt in some ways smile.amazon.co.uk/Flor-Cana-Black-Label-700ml/dp/B07G79YRD9/ref=sr_1_14 and I've still got some Chairman's Reserve, from St Lucia left, another nice drop of reasonably inexpensive rum. Dammit, Jules, even though I've sort of stopped drinking my mouth is now watering at the thought of a decent drop of rum.

LoL - I enjoyed a fairly substantial amount of local rum and coke; I also got to sample the more sophisticated Single Estate rum, of which I found Vanilla Rum particularly delicious. I have a small bottle of Single Estate XO that I'm going to open on my late father's birthday in October. Unfortunately I might have to share it as my son got a taste for the good stuff too ...

Tonight, on my father's birthday I have opened my bottle of XO Mauritian rum, which is matured in French Oak and ex-Cognac barrels. It was worth the wait. Rich, sweet and deeply unctuous, it is pure pleasure to drink. The only downside is it's a small bottle ...

Oh my lord that sounds great. I'll be having rum this weekend but fairly cheap stuff unfortunately.
There's a Dominican rum I've had many times called Brugal. Quite good.
I'd really like to get to a point in life when I can afford some of these nicer bottles.
Maybe I can get The Kraken this weekend.

It's sublime but I should say that I don't normally have a bottle of that quality ...
I was thinking about trying Diplomatico rum from Venezuela - not too expensive here and seems to get solid reviews.

Beautiful. Can you say anything more about that XO Mauritian rum?
Is it a night and day difference from a cheaper rum?

It's night and day my man.
You get the rich and moorish molasses to perfection but it's almost as if there is a splash of ripe citrus fruits giving it a really zesty finish. So compelling I had to stop myself finishing the bottle in one sitting...

I'll still stand by my recommendation (above) of the Flor de Cana 5 Year Old Black Label as a very nice sipping rum at a very reasonable price, and if you can afford to go up the range, their Flor de Cana 18 Rum at £52.39 gets very good reviews from rum-drinkers across various sites. smile.amazon.co.uk/Flor-Ca%C3%B1a-Year-Rum-70cl/dp/B001P4YZMO/ Their rums are also certified Carbon Neutral, Fair Trade certified, and are sugar-free, gluten-free, and Kosher. flordecana.com/See, you can get happily pissed, AND do your bit for the environment. I am at a loss to explain their pricing, though. They produce a "Flor de Cana 7 Year Bourbon Aged, Edition" and that's priced at £21.99 on Amazon. It's described as " A 7-year old super-premium, gran reserva abv sugar-free rum, slow aged rum naturally aged in bourbon barrels for 7 years".

So compelling I had to stop myself finishing the bottle in one sitting... Ahh mah gahd. That's something. Nevermind the distant future. My goal is to secure a bottle this year. I'm actually going to go today to look around and see how far I've come in life by determining which rum can I afford. I have a major major 2nd date Saturday night. If I could get a really good rum for the house I'd feel like Mr. Cool guy 😎 . Those Flor De Cana look great too. I'll see if they're also available at the store.

Haha thanks. Will do. Will report back and even if today isn't the best rum I'm dead set on getting a rum this year that is something worth writing home about.
Had 1st date last weekend that went so incredibly well and she was so cool. A Texan who moved to Sweden for 10 years and then landed in Massachusetts and an absolute knockout.
And again the XO Mauritian Rum sounds magical. I'll look out for the Diplomatico today as well.
