Regardless of all the claims about Granite its much easier to get glass Cut professionally edged & toughened..
Glass is perfect for shelves & Turntable platters.

If you want to cut granite hire a big petrol circular saw - commonly known as a Stihl saw. Tidy up edges etc with an angle grinder.
HOWEVER both are dangerous tool, don't touch them if you're not confident with them. And wear goggles, gloves, steel capped boots and a decent face mask.

Watch out for dust! Granite dust is full of silica and silicosis can kill you. Read that slate is a killer when cutting Are you sure granite is that bad ? Academic anyway as I can't see myself cutting More interested in alternatives now. Shame house bricks aren't that good looking

I think granite has similar or slightly more than slate.

I found a guy on ebay to cut my granite pieces - very cheap, bevelled edges not perfectly finished but good enough, and at the price I'm not complaining ...

Jules i must have gone thru a dozen suppliers of Granite at least all were second rate apart from one. Amazing how many in the trade that actually think their quality is acceptable! I have a nice piece of granite i had made for a turntable doing nothing which will probably end up on the tip as its just too expensive to post off.

I know how you feel but somehow I've become a bit more chilled out about these things than I used to be - if I had paid a premium price I would have been more concerned ...

Does anyone have any recommendations for bonding granite? It's dirt cheap in Cyprus so I might make some speaker stands and a turntable podium in time.

I think the problem would be that, in order to mate two surfaces together, they need to be flat. You can't get granite properly flat until, it's dressed and polished and, at that point, it will lose the slight porosity needed to make a good solid bond. I'd think about mechanical means to supplement anything like a bonding material. A whacking great through-bolt, for instance!

And some load spreading to prevent cracking, especially when lifting the assembly.

thin layer of gripfill(liquid nails i would put it on a rad to warm it up a bit and then it would flow better, put a weight on it,but make sure its square and level.if its not you will have to use a hammer and chisel or kango.you could also use an epoxy resin with a seration
