Valves - and Krell-beater aesthetics: I'm sure Chris will agree. Indeed! S6 and SP8 are lovely. SP10 supposedly even better, although I have no personal experience. LS1 and LS3 were pretty easily beaten by cheaper amps. All ARC preamps look gorgeous and are a delight to use. I was seriously impressed when I first clapped eyes on one. More so, when I tried using the controls. A bit too blousey sounding for some though. The SP10 sounds better but it costs a fortune to keep it fed with valves, which it gets through like there's no tomorrow. The SP8 is far more friendly in that regard. The former manager of a legendary British band owned an SP10 and sold it for a silly low price. He immediately regretted it and bought an SP8 as a stop gap until a 10 became available. Someone told him he should by an SP11 instead, as it was better than both of them. I told him it would be a mistake, as he was a vinyl man through and through and I firmly believed that the SP8 had a better phono stage. He was convinced otherwise and bought the SP11. About a week later, he told me I was correct and sold the SP11 for a profit. He kept the SP8. I've been using mine since 1991.

I'd better put the Primare l21 in here now, as I've just bought one.

You're not likely to either. Not many of them around - probably none in the UK.

Indeed - about 2K + shipping from Japan as far as I can see ...

I'm slowly starting to like the appearance of the Icon Audio HP8 MKII. Must try one someday. S.

I had one of the above ultra-rare Dynavector beasts in my system for a while, not to mention the even rarer monoblock power amps. I'll probably never see one again.

You can't beat a pair of HUUUUUUGE meters. Although I quite like these too... I've always liked the look of TAG McLaren kit. It's got an individual and easily recognisable look, especially this top-loader. Their AV kit is rather pretty too... Of course, none of it is as pretty as my Primare duo...

Always swooned over Densen amps, back in the day as a kid I'd go to the Glasgow hifi shop that stocked Densen and remember a great sounding system comprising one of their Beat 100 integrateds, hooked up to a Marantz CD63 KI Sig and Mission 752 freedoms. Loved the way it looked, an understated black gloss slab of Scandinavian muscle. Years later picked up a Densen DM20 preamp, which sounds as good as it looks. An old pic, systems changed a bit, but a good one of the amp.
Mahoosive gold knobs against polished black acrylic, the Danes sure know their product design.
