I think Verstappen in a Honda powered Red Bull and Leclerc in a Ferrari make a tasty proposition, and plenty of competition for Hamilton. I wonder if Vettel will come back fighting next year, or whether he’s done now?

I wonder if LH44 will go on to match Schumachers 7. He'll already be a legend if/when he achieves the 5, 7 though...... gosh ! Personally, I believe he has the proven natural talent, focus, application and ability to achieve that and I actually hope he does, and what a story that would be.

It's certainly possible. I doubt Vettel will have a chance unless they manage to improve the Ferrari to be all dominating. Leclerc in a Ferrari and Vestappen with a decent Honda engine might be the only fly the ointment, otherwise I doubt there will be any real challenge.
Personally, I think Lewis is by far the best driver on the grid at present and probably of his generation, that combination of raw speed, natural talent, ability to handle the pressure and experience put him streets ahead.

Lewis needs 8. Beating, not equalling Vankernmacher is the target I'm setting him

I wonder if Hamilton will retire at the end of his current contract - up to 2020. The rules will change and he has expressed lots of interest in a future career in music. He doesn't need to chase Schumacher, he has nothing left to prove even if he gets no more than the 5 WCs that he is in line to win.
Personally, I would retire at the top rather than do what Schumacher did.

Good point, Martin. I guess it all depends on where Mercdes are at the end of his contract and how much change there is in 2021.

Yeah agree, but it 'would' be nice.
He should get one over Seb though.

With LH-44 on the verge of another great achievement I found this a good read. www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/oct/19/how-mercedex-carried-lewis-hamilton-to-verge-of-his-fifth-f1-titleHamilton and Mercedes have been outstanding, unrelenting, focused and delivered when the odds were not quite in their favour which has been the difference. Individually they are premier, together they are one heck of a force, who's combined A game is pretty close to unbeatable much of the time. I hope they smash it tomorrow and only wish I could be part of any celebrations ....

There's plenty that can go wrong....I hope folks aren't getting too carried away with Lewis having a slam dunk of a race.

Indeed, this is F1 after all, DNF's, shunts, mechanical issues etc etc - My comments are in veiw of what could potentially be achieved tomorrow of course. If not tomorrow then we move on for even more anticipation at the next race(s), or even next year

Great start and a great win for Raikkonen.
Verstappen keeps proving himself to be ever consistent, always up there somewhere and a genuine hard racer. You'd expect him to bag a title or few in the future.
His team mate Ricciardo on the other hand has had more than his share of reliability issues and probably be glad to see the back of the season.
And so it's off to Mexico we go. With the Ferrari fast again it could be interesting.

That was a great race yesterday, but Mercedes clearly ballsed up the strategy. It was interesting watching Lewis taking on Max, he was being so careful not to come into contact with him, a complete contrast to the sort of driving Vettel does.
Vettel was useless again. In fact, if I were Ferari I would seriously be questioning whether I fired the wrong person in Raikkonen based on recent form.
Raikkonen did a great job, and his press conference comments were hilarious.
Verstappen remains one to watch, I think next year could be interesting if that Honda engine is as good as they think it might be.

The question is whether Lewis will take it this weekend?
He only needs a 7th place, even if Vettel wins, so there is a very good chance he will and seems a formality, but we know it never runs smoothly in Formula One.

Prediction: Vettel to make another mistake into the first corner, taking himself and Lewis out of the race.
Hamilton just needs to stay away from any contact and stroke the car home. Done deal.

Nice job by Lewis, easily the most rounded and consistent driver on the grid this year.
Just think back to Spa when we all thought that Lewis' chances of winning the championship were gone, given the advantage shown by the Ferrari and Vettel at that race. Vettel is going to have to up his game significantly next year, but does he have it in him?, and they should watch out for those Red Bulls now too.

Mexico is a bit different due to altitude where the red bulls rule. They have a new Honda engine that might help or hinder
