Hamilton stretches his lead to 50pts. Right decision Merc team wise to let Hamilton through. Vettel almost caused crash with double move / weave under braking. Hamilton just monsters him next corner. Hot stuff! Fact that Hamilton got past was enough to passify stewards I think. Putin present - awkward. Bet Vlad the alledged you know what, enjoyed the National Anthem Creepy Bernie lurking around.

Yes, his celebrations were muted. However, he is up for a championship and Bottas isn't. Teams need orders for such eventualities.
Nice to see the Force India pair play by the rules, too.
I think it's not Ferrari's pace that has suffered, it's both Mercedes and Red Bull that have found further gains.

Mercedes had to do what they did. I just hope it doesn't take the edge Hamilton's performance in just a week's time. He clearly feels the win wasn't really his, this could play on his mind.

Not F1 but on catching up on F3 races, some extraordinary results were viewed. Jamie Chadwick became the first woman to win an F3 race. Brands Hatch GP circuit no less.
Then at Donnington park Billy Monger (who lost both legs in a terrible accident in an F3 car there last year), took pole position! The lad has speed. He's been doing pretty well all year with hand controls and foot / leg brake to allow him to race! His recovery and return to racing is some story.

What's happened to Ferrari? Sure Vettel has made mistakes and Merc have improved - probably their new wheel hubs are giving them options on how to manage their tyres. I can't help feeling that Ferrari have been sailing a bit close to the wind this season in terms of regs (eg clouds on smoke at startup). I'm wondering whether they've felt the FIA were going to look at one of their "tricks" and had to remove it. Could be that this is in the energy store area, they had an advantage there recently but not now. Their camera blanket has gone now too...

Yes, I suspect they were a little on the edge of what is acceptable and realised there was a good chance it would be found out. Another thing, I’m sure the death of their leader, Sergio Marchionne would have had a large impact on how the team work together. Oh and Lewis has been driving a lot better than Vettel and is easily winning the psychological game at the moment.

I did wonder whether Ferrari had backed off some of their 'tricks' on the suspicion that the FIA may look a little more deeply at them. Meanwhile, the Mercedes wheel hub cooling trick does seem to be helping with their tyre degradation.
Red Bull, though. Considering they were supposedly back to the Spec 'B' Renault engine, their pace was quite remarkable.

Yeah that oil burning thing at the start of the season was well dodgy I thought. Who knows what else.. True pace revealed very 2nd best it seems.. "There are 3 letters in FIA, and they are all in Ferrari" - MW bless him

The Mercedes and especially Lewis, are looking ominously fast in Japan.
So who’s getting up and stupid o’clock to watch it live?

I'm thinking about it. The Suzuka track is superb, one of the few legendary tracks that must under no circumstances ever be axed from F1.

Totally agree, great track, and the speeds they are going round there this year is immense.

It's even a great track to drive in racing sims so in real life it must be utterly fantastic! Spoon, 130R & Degner curves are right up there. It will be recorded and watched once I have naturally arisen.
I used to get up back when the Motorsport passion burned at its brightest.

Uber downforce of current cars! I've not driven Suzuka other then on sims but would reckon Eau Rouge still has it in the balls dept physically Happy eightieth Lewis! Vettel / Ferrari from bad to worse! Maurizio Arrivabene won't last much longer.. Arrivabene = Arrivederci

Impressions of speed. TV makes it look slow at times. It really, really isn't...
Eau Rouge (Spa-Francorchamps)
130R (Suzuka)

Another good result for Lewis and Vettel melting under the pressure. The Championship is more or less done now in Lewis’ favour.

Very well controlled race by Hamilton. Like him or not, Verstappen looks like a cert for future champion. Vettel has done himself further harm with Ferrari. Watch Leclerc become their favourite next year.

Agree, he doesn't ever accept fault which is annoying too, at least with Verstappen, even though he is hot headed, he will own up to his errors (eventually).
If that Honda continues to be good, it could be a Mercedes - Red Bull battle next year rather than Mercedes - Ferrari.

Hehe, Channel 4 showed all of Vettel's mistakes this season back to back. Bit cruel..

I think Verstappen in a Honda powered Red Bull and Leclerc in a Ferrari make a tasty proposition, and plenty of competition for Hamilton.
