I'm a bad back sufferer / had a weak core for years. I found beds chairs, car seats, massage, chiro etc etc will help with the symptoms, but not fix the root cause. Taking the time and physical effort to develop a weak core to a strong one is quite an ask.. Rewarding if done though. If you are already pretty strong try these.. they take you to another level of well being.. I do the full set every other day and a half set in between or whenever I feel I need it. www.active.com/tennis/articles/7-core-exercises-every-tennis-player-should-doAs for beds.. We like IKEA mattresses. Take lots of time in store and you'll find the right one. I'm currently making the bed frame of my wife's dreams - I kid you not! I have probably improved my various aches and pains with Yoga, more recently Pilates and core work. Coming on nicely. Alexander Technique some years ago was a great help in learning how to use my body properly Stretch and exercise every morning Thanks for the link will check that out too Which IKEA mattress ? Not keen on foam

Not keen on foam We got Hövåg. We have super king-size The Ikea Hövåg (202.587.63) That's Hervorg to you in Swedish or Ho-vag if you work in IKEA UK. Makes me wince every time. Both our daughters got their doubles / super kingsize too. Don't be put off thinking the price is too low. UK mattresses are well over priced imho.. It's not foam. Marie won't have foam.

Thanks Steve
Price tells me Vi Spring is better. Some experience tells me IKEA may well have the advantage over Vi Spring Which Mag rated IKEA if I remember right.
That price is insane ! Think our Vi Spring is bigger Says Standard Double Length: 190 cm Width: 135 cm
if we try this and don't like it I wonder if we have another bed we could out....

Despite being 'only' 84kg (I don't do stones) we went for a firm mattress and I'm glad we did. It has proven supremely comfortable for good sleep. 84Kg!!!!!!!! One of my legs weighs more than that! Let's hear from the 'real men' of 100Kg and above! I know there are at least three more of you out there! 100Kg, fff, my finger nails weigh more than that. I think we should be starting higher

I was around 15 and a half stone, call it 100 kilos when I realised I didn't want to be. Felt much more comfortable a stone less and better still coming down further

We tried the Ikea ones last year but didn't get on with them at all, still it was a good excuse to eat some meatballs and donuts!!

At long last we went shopping for beds. Main reason for a new bed was the boss. I was pretty happy with the very old one, but at 20 odd years old I realise I could be wrong ! Trying to get the boss available is a struggle and we were *not* going to a shop at the weekend
Good look around online and found Vispring at various places. Special deals abound but are not easy to access unless you want *exactly* that bed size, firmness, plus
Furniture Village was ok. Product knowledge not so good.
And so to bed product knowledge superb, in the one we went in anyway.
Entry level mattress I didn't like, felt like you were going to roll off it.
Lay on various mattresses, soft, medium, hard, different springing, different bases. The boss knew her not so cheap favourite first time. I was happy with all except the entry level
Made 3 visits to And so to bed. Compared the deal we were offered to others. Possible but unlikely to be beaten on the set up we wanted. Went fresh one visit and end of a long day for comparison.
Ordered with 4 week expected. Came early on Friday so we have had 2 nights sleep on it so far.
First impressions good. Sleep is at least slightly better and the new mattress underlines to me how shot the old one was Believe I get to sleep faster
Surprises for me are better feeling in the body when I get up. My various aches and pains are very much reduced. I'm wondering if they will even go away.
The boss is waking with none of her usual back pain.
So far so good and I think we are in an upward spiral.
Can't see how we can ever tell if we have the best VFM as you need to sleep on all of them for a few days each.

Good outcome, Mike. Good sleep is priceless and definitely extends quality of life. Time to mention Matthew Walker again. It really is a must-read.

I had an inkling there could be benefits for me in a new bed. Seems to be so
One thing I find odd I am much warmer in this new bed with same sheet and quilt. Cutting back on the quilt tonight

Joking aside, I think most mattresses need replacing after around 10 years, give or take, depending on quality of course. Having been away and slept like crap for a week, coming back to my mattress gave me a desperately needed deep sleep last night.

Useful mattress life is from around 7-12 years i found on my research. 10 years seems favourite. Sounds very convenient and too much like that was plucked out of the air and there must be huge variation according to use. Weight of punter, small adult at say 8 stone to large adult at say 20 stone, hours per night, nights per year in use, 'use' <cough>, age maybe

We have been sleeping on a new ViSpring since early December. Sleep is better. The various pains the boss has have been reduced.
An excellent move
