They'd probably look better in black, even so I don't think I could live with them. I do like the stands though which would look awesome sitting under my DM2's

I wonder what all the steps are designed to achieve or if they are just intended to impress those who are impressed by such things. I wonder why they didn't manage to sell this ex-demo pair?

I think you hit the nail on the head there Gordon. Barring the steps the shape of the cabs is actually rather cool.

there are quite a few folks building similar cabs over on diyaudio. It's flavour of the month if you have, or have access to a cnc router. Just cut loads of similar slices in 18mm material and then glue them hi-rise style in a huge sandwich. Some people are doing it vertically as in this example and some are doing it horizontally, to produce sexy curved horns.
Being a diy kind of guy I struggle to see where £16000 comes in, and yes, I agree, not pleasant to look at.

I guess it has an advantage acoustically but with that shape, I wouldn't think it was necessary. If anyone wants a pair made, I could probably arrange a small discount.

They started off at £16K new,I don't think the UK re-seller actually sold any and these may have been the demo pair. I believe they don't sound too bad, I made the guy an offer of £1,200, which is about what I think they are worth.
The seller is a private dealer who trades from his garage last time I went there.

New, the Revelator drive units are probably about £800 worth, then there's a couple of hundred (probably) for top quality crossovers and a few hundred for the cabs!

I think you hit the nail on the head there Gordon. Barring the steps the shape of the cabs is actually rather cool. The shape should be rather good for reducing internal mode reflections. If they're indeed built by stacking plywood lams, then they stand a chance of being quite good given the drive units. That would also explain the significant asking price. Indeed, a shape with a bit of character. Not sure they're my cup of tea, but it might also explain why they've been on the sale block for most of a year.

Actually, I think if they were finished in piano black lacquer they would look far more presentable...

Agreed. I think the metallic silver is not doing them justice. And a darker color would tame the look of those "barbs" machined into the fronts.

Ugly speakers? Well, all a matter of taste I guess. These would be included in any list for me ... Mind you, these are a matter of taste as well! ....
