I'm on a roll gear-grinding wise. I'd quite forgotten how debilitating, and how shitty one could make me feel. What am I talking about? The common, bloody, cold. I woke up with a stinker in the middle of the night. It was the sneezing that actually woke me. My eyes are watering, my nose is running, my head is feeling like a big empty, echoey room, and my sinuses feel like someone has taken a hammer to them, between my eyes.
The worst thing about a cold? There's not much actually wrong with you, you just feel like shit, and I do. How the Hell did I catch a cold? I haven't been out, and the closest I've come to interacting with another human being is thanking the Amazon delivery person for the parcel they placed by my door, rang the bell, and then backed off from.
BAH!!!!!

It was in the fine print of the that 2-for-1 offer the other week: get a Chimpanzee adenovirus injected in your arm and we'll throw in a free human rhinovirus too!

Agreed on colds Pointless damned things. Make you grotty for a few days, linger perhaps. Take it easy though just in case. In rare cases they can kill

Blimey, with all this lockdown and social distancing, I haven't caught a bloody thing in a year.
Except COVID last year, that is.

It must have been one of the bedroom windows, Jules. Bloody Windows! Perhaps it came from your computer. A virus from a Windows Driver, maybe?

DPD: Every parcel I've had from them this year has been delivered before 08:00, and to be honest, I've missed a couple. Living alone there's nobody to tell me when to get up and sometimes I just don't bother to set the alarm and sleep in. Today though, I knew they were delivering, so alarm set, up and at 'em, waiting with bated breath. I've just this second - 09:10 - got a message to tell me that "Your order will be delivered today by Emil, your DPD driver, between 10:11 and 11:11." I could have had that extra hour in bed you b*st*rds!

DPD have been pissing me off recently. They used to fine, and it may be related towhat account a sender has with them (probably cheapest), but recently they have taken to lying and delivering to a pick-up station on the other side of the city!; they claim no-one was in and then take it to the pick-up point. On every occasion I was here and often the time they claim delivery was attempted was even in the future! They did the same yesterday, but this time I was prepared and had their live tracker running. I could see the van leave the depot and drive stright to the paket station, then came the report that I was not in. I had taken screen shots of the tracker and was straight on to Amazon chat (for the 4th time in as many days, for the second order of the same item from the same Amazon seller). They made another compaint to DPD and immediately refunded both failed orders, rather than wait for the items to re-turned as uncollected. I then ordered from a vendor on eBay who uses DHL instead.

So let me get this straight. I'm complaining because DPD have been TOO efficient up until now, and you're complaining because they're rubbish?

Delivery drivers seem to get people's goats quite effectively don't they?!
I have had my gears ground to distraction by one today. He decided that his van would fit through a gap that it wouldn't fit through. The result of it not fitting was some delightful damage to my car. Gears also ground today by an insurance company that: Has a website that doesn't allow you to submit their forms. Doesn't fix dead links Refuses to publish phone numbers in any of the obvious places Offers the use of a non-functioning live chat option Employ people who don't listen Bring in 3 other trough snuffling companies to deal with various aspects of my claim...
I'd better not continue, as the gear grinding today has been extraordinarily wide ranging and comprehensive.

As someone who used to build websites in another lifetime bad UIs, undecipherable navigation, poorly maintained, and just plain fugly-for-no-reason websites really grind my gears.

Had a pub lunch today with a quite limited and uninspiring menu. Decided the plant burger was the best looking option - the burger itself, presumably not homemade, was rather tasty but everything else was so poor. A toasted bun that was bone dry and crunchy, with a smearing of tomato paste and lettuce. Served with a very ordinary salad with nothing interesting in it and a dressing that tasted of pretty much nothing. It looked so much better on the menu.
And the price for this culinary masterpiece? £14.95.
Pubs have been whining for months on end about not being able to open - this kind of nonsense is not the answer.

Prefer to eat at home. Always. Better food, nicer ambience, comfortable chairs, no rush, dogs sitting with you if you are lucky
