When will you do the right thing and buy some black kit ? You know it sounds better And of course the trading under false pretences. That avatar......... LOL, yes, I guess the avatar will have to change. No-one will recognise me any more :-( As for black, a black Belles amp sitting among all that lovely silver kit would look horrible. No problem Swap out that awful silver stuff !

All good points and very well made, but if there was a big power amp sat there doing nothing, I'd have to satisfy my curiosity.

I know it's personal taste, but I used to think that Black Ash was the poverty finish for speakers

It will become as rare and sought after in due course, once all the Ash trees on the planet have died of Chalara Ash Dieback disease - 30% of England now has infected trees in it.

Showing the Coherent 6D speaker cables going into the bass terminals (with really nice twist-lock plugs), the Coherent BD jumpers, and the SPEC unit on the plinth connected to the mid/treble terminals. I'm not sure what the loan cable is that Tony included with the SPEC. I'm thinking of using short 4mm jumpers and having my own SPEC dangling from the terminals. Oh, and that's the TQ Ultra Black left loose on the floor, soon to go on my sales list.

I've experimented with very short Van Damme Blue jumpers connecting the SPEC to the mid/treble terminals (and leaving it dangling). This sounds better than using the long flyleads in the previous photo.

Yannis 222.5 ConnectLitz silver interconnects with WBT 0110Ag phonos for the new single-ended connection from Pass to Belles.

Tony left me a couple of Coherent 5D power cables (with different mains plugs) to try various things with.
The really startling one is swapping in a 5D with Furutech Gold plug for the MCRU No.9 running my Ayre SACD player. That a power cable swap is so audible in its effect still surprises me. I can hear a deeper soundstage with less harshness, more detail and recorded noise that images rather than being flat. More bass authority, too.
I can also hear the difference between the two 5D cables with the only difference being the mains plugs.
Damn, these Coherent power cables are good!

Oh, not balanced then, and still better I know - I've always preferred balanced but the Pass does a good job of hiding the differences by having huge output drive and low output impedance. The Belles is better regardless.

Listening to some Yello last night (Flag and Touch), I was struck by how much darkness is in between the notes, giving a sense of space that I hadn't heard before (well, I know what I mean). Flag on vinyl is a really stupendous recording, an uber-detail test if ever I heard one. What that darkness means is that it's easier to listen to one element of the music and follow it through. It also means that dynamic peaks (such as the trumpets in Tied Up) are more startling still.
Touch has simpler mixes but features very textured bass and pushes Heidi Happy's gorgeous vocals right up front, which probably makes her, err, very happy.
These attributes appear to be as a result of the interaction of the Belles amp, Coherent speaker cables and SPEC 'processor'. Real synergy at work.
