They always fascinated me, but I never really got to the bottom of their topology and how they work. Perhaps @colin could shed light?

Kinter MA-180. Still in use in my conservatory system and sounding perfectly decent. I think this might win the contest for the lowest price bought new -- less than £10 delivered!

Nobsound NS-02G Chinese build of the classic JLH circuit - 10wpc class A transistor amp. It sounds excellent - I must plumb it back in sometime and see how it compares with the mighty Pass X150.

From memory Bob changed the primary voltage and thus the secondary voltage of the PSU inside the amp to increase power dynamically . Not a bad idea but I can see a few problems with this method due to charge time and then signal to power demand timing. Now day I have tried linear to Hi-Speed Buck converter not to dissimilar to a CUK converter running at 1MHz , it works but the filtering is a pain, so I used very expensive ITW Paktron Low ESR capacitors to do the job. How CUK converter should work. CUK on Youtube

The SECA design I use was based on a dynamic load I designed to test MIL SPEC CUK's in Portsmouth circa 1974, at the time the patent on CUK's could only be used for military PSU designs.
