Dark Side of the Moon & Wish You Were Here are consecutive, so the album at either end should be Obscured By Clouds or Animals Nearly Paul, nearly Not according to this site rateyourmusic.com/artist/pink-floyd-1

That site says exactly the same as wot I say! Meddle is 1971 Obscured By Clouds is 1972 (aka The Soundtrack to the Film "La Vallée") Dark Side Of The Moon is 1973 Wish You Were Here is 1975 Animals is 1977

No question about the sequencing - the album labels agree with you. Putting in Obscured by Clouds in place of Meddle, still "defines the band" since it bridges that psychedelic phase, but OBC wasn't in the league of Meddle. If the rules excluded Live albums and bootlegs, can we also exclude "commissioned" albums - rather than band "made in the mainstream". It was after all, arguably not a Floyd album, but a film soundtrack. But I am starting to wonder a bit whether I am screwed by my own logic into agreeing with Martin and including Animals as a bridge to The Wall. Nope - real non-live, non-soundtrack albums, Meddle DSOM WYWH

Hah - I had a major issue there, too, with Meddle and Animals. It could have gone either way, but Obscured gets in the sequence so Animals it is

The Kinks: 'Face to Face' 'Something Else by The Kinks' 'Village Green Preservation Society'
The Who: 'Tommy' 'Who's Next' 'Quadrophenia'
John Mayall: 'Blues Breakers' (Beano) - with Clapton 'A Hard Road' - with Greeny 'Crusade' - with Mick Taylor

Swap the White Album for Rubber Soul & I'm right there with you for both of those lists! It was a very close race, but there are more tracks I like on The White Album. Funnily enough the one I thought I might take flak for was calling Beggars Banquet over Exile.
