Come on, Jerry, don't keep us in suspense. What have you bought?

You'll see it in 10 days or so, once it gets here and then comes out of its 5 day quarantine.

Interesting choice Jerry, what put you onto this brand?
Certainly new to me!
It looks huge in terms of width.

Interesting choice Jerry, what put you onto this brand? Certainly new to me! It looks huge in terms of width. It's standard width, just not very tall! I just happened to come across it on eBay, I'd not heard of it either. My curiosity was piqued. I fancied a change of scene from my high power Apart Champ 2 amps. For no particular reason. I just try things. It's a US pro home installation company. www.speakercraft.com/connect/about-speakercraftIt sounds like a pro amp. No euphonic niceness - a straight flat frequency response (I can really hear that on massed strings, Bruckner 1 Karajan atm). Very fast on transients, no overhang at all. Very high rez and well defined, everything seems laid out with explicit precision. I'm really enjoying this! Will try it out on something seriously meaty later, once the mrs is pottering in the garden!

Never heard of the brand, looks semi-pro. It's obviously got plenty of current to drive 4 Ohm speakers and might have an upper voltage limit preventing it from quite reaching half the power into 8 Ohms. The bass should be pretty well controlled.

Just looking at the Crown XTi 6002 from the Crutchfield website. Bridged into 4 Ohms it delivers a mere 6 Kilowatts.
Anyway, Jerry and I weren't too impressed with the Crown XLS 1500 a while back.
Pro amps can deliver a bit of fun for not much money IMHO and some with huge power outputs. But state of the art for hi-fi they generally ain't. At least with the cheaper ones.
Good for second systems I think where you wanna keep the cost down. I have been using a £200 2nd hand Apart Champ 1 for years now.

Didn't realise you had the SGS - how long has it been there and how do you find it?

Seeing your treble clef on the right-hand upright reminds me that I found one just like it after seeing yours some years ago. Mine is on my metal standard lamp in the music room.

Didn't realise you had the SGS - how long has it been there and how do you find it? Ages - since MT made such a fuss about them - 2 or 3 years back? I heard a worthwhile difference when I trialled it - I just leave it plugged in now and don't fuss about it. I recall it didn't do anything for me until I put it on sorbothane footers, at which point it stayed rather than got returned. That makes no sense to me at all.

Footers for grounding boxes make little sense, but I have all mine on BR Pads since I found that the SGS benefit so much from them. Strangely, the BR Eflos grounding boxes don't come with Pads fitted - mine have them now!

... and a change of electronics. Out for now go the Lexicon DC-1 pre/DAC and Bantam Stealth class D power amp. In come .... the good old SpeakerCraft SC2-100 power amp (220wpc into the MBLs' 4 ohms) top left - Chord 2Qute DAC atop its Teddy Pardo PSU and on the right - a Nobsound ( ) PGA2310 preamp. All sounding spiffingly good, what! Excellent clarity and fast dynamics while still retaining a strong sense of musicality. A rather different take on the music from the Lexicon's immersive and bold romanticism. It's nice to have a change now and then!

Thought you might have tried a pair of these by now, Jerry.
If they weren't £350 I would have tried them. There is a pair on eBay for £200, but still wouldn't pay that amount for some headphones:
