No, not plasma tweeters, there's just an ordinary dome in there.
Yes, my kittens, now residing in heaven.
The photo is from about 18 years ago. Horn hybrids bought over 20 years ago and kept for 5 years or so.

Too cute.
If we ever get to move house I like the idea of getting a Bengal cat ...

Jerry, have you ever tried Superlux cans? I'm using the HD668B at present. Just wondering how you might rate them.

Nope, never tried them.
They certainly get good reviews and I know they are liked by folks here on TAS. I almost went for a used pair on ebay a week or two back - damn, should have done that!
I must admit, though, that unlike amps and DACs I have yet to hear a 'bargain priced' set of cans that are actually acceptable let alone decent. Same with speakers, really - I think it's a transducer thing - electronics you can beat the curve, mechanical transducers not so much. But I haven't heard the Superlux and maybe they buck this trend.
Also, I find headphones to be very personal things - many is the model I have bought on the back of great and widespread reviews only to find them 'orrible. That's not to say they are bad just that I don't like them!

after over 3 happy months using elderly (20 year old) Lexicon MC-1 and then DC-1 processors as DAC and preamp, I returned yesterday to my Audiobyte Black Dragon because, well, why not?! Interesting comparison; the BD is more transparent and immediate, the Lexicons are more immersive and a little more relaxed. I've a vague suspicion that I might conclude that the Lexicons are musical and the Audiobyte is hifi. Or maybe I'll just enjoy having both available. And I have to confess to naughtiness in rather enjoying the surround modes from the Lexicons now and then. The Audiobyte is certainly irritating in having only one of each type of digital input - why-tf do so many makers do that in this digital age with multiple digital sources? - dumber than dumb imo.

I suppose they want to make their kit general purpose so they offer one of each of various types of input in the hope that it'll suit your needs.
How many inputs do you need?

So 3 would be handy. As it is I have to use an XLR/RCA adaptor and less than ideal TOSLINK, as well as RCA for my main streaming source. I can easily imagine having more than that. The Lexicons have multiple digital inputs of each type. IMO it's just crazily stupid not to do this.

Whoosh! Well, that didn't last long. Too bright, too obvious, too hifi. Back to the Lexicon ... ahhh, music. Where's my pipe and slippers got to?

Just arrived, the (almost) legendary Sony MDR CD1700. I've owned a pair twice before; I gave the first pair to my (non-audiophile) brother after I saw his face when he tried them. Bought myself another pair soon after that - getting on for 20 years ago now, can't recall why I eventually sold them or what replaced them. Getting all nostalgic I started looking out for another pair, curious to find out how they sounded to me now. The 1997 Hifi Choice review - "...sound quality is startlingly good, with the kind of exquisite clarity and delicacy normally found in top-class electrostatics". Mmmm, yup, still true. But these are conventional moving coil 'phones. And like many stats, they are a bit on the bass light side. Very open and airy. And very cumfy. £199.99 back in 1997. Yay, it's nice to have them back again.

Back to the Lexicon ... ahhh, music. Looks like I am a Lexicon devotee, the problem is these things are 20 years old and prone to failure. So I have just invested in a spare DC-1. Yay - and to quote the eBay description "New PSU fitted (the part that usually fails)". Double Yay. I'm going to have to ask a mod to change the title of this thread, I think. "JANDL100 System - Stuck in a rut!"

That will last about 5 minutes I reckon ... Well, that gives an interesting insight into my mentality. Normally, a ... at the end of a sentence would drive me crazy and raise my blood pressure to unhealthy levels, but having an emoji at the end completes the sentence and doesn't leave it hanging, and works just fine for me. No sudden urge to get my hatchet out and go round to Jules' place ...

LOL!
I shall use ellipses with some care in the future (mostly when Jerry is not looking).

If you make it past the twin machine gun towers into the grounds patrolled by dobermans, through the minefield, into the perimeter guarded by laser trip wires and finally into the house where five beautiful but blood-thirsty female ninja bodyguards will greet you, I will have a glass of my oldest and finest Armagnac waiting for you whilst ‘Four Last Songs' gently plays in the background on Tannoys.
