The ASBO, Victory Hall, April 2017: Photos and Comments. I've stripped out the more recent posts to make a new thread which separates the 'before' from the ' after-the-event' posts. I hope to have completed the lists of the various system components shortly.

Back home after a great afternoon and evening at the ASBO!
Great to meet up and put names to faces. Happy Birthday Paul (P J Downs) and thanks for the treats and birthday cake!
Thanks to John, Tony Sallis, Martin, Colin and Steve for taking the trouble to bring kit along for our listening pleasure!
Here's to the next one!

That was a great evening, thanks to everyone who turned up. The main room was kind to us with a very decent sound. Not so the second room which sounded poor, while John struggled to set his system up well. Many of you had left by the time we moved it into the main area, but we were finally rewarded with a taste of what his system can do. Steve, your marble speakers were epic. Colin, your EWE amplifiers were superb. The Raspberry Pi proved once again that you don't need to spend lots of money to get great sound. Tony, your new streamer has great potential. Thank you everyone, we're already thinking about how we can make the next event even better.

I had a very enjoyable few hours. Good to put faces to names, although the march of dementia has now left me wondering which name went with which face!
Hat off to John for perseveing as he was clearly having a nightmare. Sadly I did not get to hear his OB's, hopefully next time.
If anyone is interested in the vid where I found the Pansonic torture track it is here (if this up loads succesfully)

That small room was awfulI think stanmounts would of worked better in the room. Thankfully the bigger room I was able to get closer to what they are capable off.

A piccie of one of the system's playing at yesterday's ASBO (before my camera battery died!). Martin's PS Audio P10 mains regenerator was supplying juice to Colin's pre/power amp into Martin's vintage Gale speakers. I think the source was Martin's Pioneer CD player.

Steve's marble speakers, P10 regenerator, Mike's Pioneer stable platter CD player, Colin/Alan's excellent EWA pre/power amp, Beresford Caiman SEG, Raspberry Pi. Rob, Steve J, Tony, Chris, Steve C, Paul. Steve J (Electric Beach) setting up his new speaker design ready for listening. Tony, Steve J, Mike. Colin, Marie, Paul, Alan. John's system finally singing. The most bizarre system you could imagine, but it worked - Behringer, Pi, Caiman SEG, Radford STA-15, isobarik open baffles!

It was a long drive down from Lancaster, but well worth it to meet some folks I've been yammering with for over ten years in some cases (blimey!) but never clapped eyes on. Here are some more photos of the various combos of kit. Steve's Stone Bongos were excellent. A bit of improvisation with the impromptu flipping upside down of the speaker stands was necessary but it seemed to work! Colin and Alan's new amps. Tony's ripper/hard drive/streamer box John valiantly battled with problems with his kit in the smaller room for the best part of the afternoon. At one point, he made a dash for a local Maplin store to replace a broken connector that proved to be the main source of his problems. Once he got it going, the speakers proved to be too much for the room. So we decamped it and moved the speakers and bass amp into the big room. Much better. It's a shame that most folks had already left by this time because this weird, bizarre collection of the most unlikely components sounded excellent.

Would have very much liked to have heard John's system on full song but I had reached my fall off a cliff time and in danger of turning into a pumpkin.
Anyone not there looking at the pics of John's speakers.... They look even more outlandish in the flesh. "You will be assimilated"

Would like to add my appreciation to all who made the meet happen, whether by organisation or simply turning out. A great success, a wonderful evening and I don't want to wait a year for the next. Can't believe it was Chris, with the furthest local connection, who found the perfect venue and one that has excellent acoustic potential. Personal highlights, among many actually, were The Raspberry Pi. Hearing my nOhr 9 speakers sound as they should, thanks to the EWE amps. Hearing others are enjoying Anouar Brahem Hearing John's 'Beasts' sound fully vindicate their appearance Disappointments... Finding that ChrisB is not the man in his avatar Thanks to Martin and Rob, who wished they hadn't offered to help move those 80lb slippery hams: www.norh.com/Norh_Loudspeakers/Factory_2.html

Thanks to Martin and Rob, who wished they hadn't offered to help move those 80lb slippery hams I didn't mind, but I later had to lift the 33kg P10 into my car and then back out when I got home, and that was very nearly the end of me!

Sorry to have let you down so badly with the misrepresentation of myself for all these years Steve! It was great to spend time chatting with you, I really enjoyed it and learnt a lot. Send me a PM and we'll talk about sorting you with that Raspberry Pi.
We are already talking about an interesting twist that could make another do at the Victory Hall really great next year, but I agree that a year is way too long to wait for the next meeting. How would folks feel about travelling a bit further for one in 5 or 6 months?
