Hello again. I have also installed some bass traps: And I have had a bit of time (not really enough) to listen. Last night I had a few hours, and the difference is amazing. The imagining is improved, everything is much tighter and cleaner. I have never felt so "one with the music", it may be the first time I have ever really felt like I was on the sound stage, or right in front of it. It really is incredible.

Great stuff, Brad. Room treatment is the missing ingredient in many otherwise good systems.

Great to hear Brad.
Good reminder that room treatment is something I must get into A big mirror near a corner, 4 windows and French doors cannot be the best

Bought some new CDs and had more time to listen to the new and old. 1st, Steely Dan's Aja is an awesome album, 2nd I am even more impressed with the improvements the panels/traps made. Everything is so much more distinct and accurate. Especially the bass, which is much more tangible. I have to listen to my entire library over again to reassess it, everything sounds so much better and "right".

1st, Steely Dan's Aja is an awesome album That it is. Glad the room treatment has worked out so well. I think it's a mandatory step in any upgrade path and am surprised at how many high end systems do not have the benefit of a room that has been well treated.

Working through albums is a treat after a big upgrade.
All the detail that was there but not revealed, wonderful

Hello, I was also on a google search for M3si and found this thread. That is a great looking system and room! Here is a little of my story. I've been into things like this since I was very young. I never had much at home thate was worth listening to, just cheap low end equipment. But I remember going to a friends house and hearing a louder, better quaility stereo for the first time. Hearing the details I never heard before, and feeling the bass! I was in love. When I was around 12 years old I went through our basement and attic and found anything with a speaker in it and I ripped it out and tried to build 1 box for all of them together with some scrap wood and a hand saw. I understood a little as to how it worked and I wanted it louder so I cut rca cables and spliced speaker outputs into rca and ran it to the line inputs. I thought it was great! still can't believe I didn't burn anything out. My parents were not as thrilled as me. Over the years I never had much money to buy speakers or amps but by the time I was about 16 a circuit city store opened in my area and I heard cerwin vega vs 150 for the first time. And a subwoofer. I cuold not get enough of the bass! I managed to save and buy some of these by the time I was 17, and also got very involved into car audio. Every kid wanted more bass in those days. I ended installing a lot of stereo systems for friends and they would get different cars and the door and rear deck speakers were different sizes so they would get new ones and give me the ones that didn't fit. So I ended up putting 4) 6x9 and 6) 5 1/4 speakers and 4) extra component tweeters in my bronco II with my subwoofers. The sound quality was like nothing anyone else had and it made me hear those things in songs that I heard in my friends stereo when I was young. The car stereo fad ended I grew older had a family and more important thing to worry about than stereos (but still had my cerwin vegas) I started a construction company and starting a business consumes you. So one day Im installing a 75K bathroom for someone and I go into the basement and collecting dust is this full mirage system. I had heard of them but never listened to them. So I asked the customer why she was not using this stuff and she said she never was into it, she said her late husband used to watch war movies down there on the old projection tv. I asked her if she wanted to sell it or work out some sort of barter and she insinted I take it all for free. (I ended up doing alot of other work for her and charged her much less though, I felt too guilty even if she wanted me to have it. So now I have 4) M3si's, the mirage center channel speaker, the mirage powered sub, a bunch of transparent audio cables and wire, 3)chiro amps, and a yamaha pre amp. lucky me I hooked all of it up in my sunroom 12x15 all windows tile floor because it was the only empty space I had. I have a bad crossover in 1 of the M3si's I took it apart to see why some of the mid drivers didn't work, no loose connections and when I hook up the driver directly I get sound. Just listening to 2 of them was amazing in that room that is not suited for it My first question for all of you is how do I fix it or where can I send it? I called the only local high end audio shop and they are clueless. Next question is just any advice on different parts. I want to focus on the speakers and build from there. Are those amps good? I always loved the way old tube amps sounded, and records, is that something I would like with these speakers? And also I will be building a new house in about 2 years and I plan to dedicate a room to listening to music. Maybe it could be a theater but I think I want it just for music. Is there any do's and dont's with building the room, is there an ideal size? Thanks for reading and any help would be great.

Hi Shane and welcome to TAS! Calling ChrisB as he has, I believe, the same model Mirage speakers. That's a great story and you're very lucky to have made such a discovery. My guess with the crossover would be a dry joint or blown capacitor. Is there not a hi-fi dealership near you with a repair shop? It shouldn't be that difficult to diagnose with a test meter.
