The 306 is back in the system again. Currently working my way through Pink Floyds back catalogue and it sounds amazing, I do like this DAC.

I hope the amp situation works out for you Dave. Sounds like there are some components being run a little too close to the wind there - yesterday's weather was warm but not exactly a roaster by the standards of some other places. I think I would be asking for my lolly back rather than a replacement.

Once upon a time I may have got stressed about it Chris, but these days I am soo laid back I'm surprised I don't topple backwards... Self-driving pizza delivery cars to be tested in the US - For crying out loud, is nothing sacred? Who's to blame if my prize garden gnome gets crushed now???

I have decided not to send the amp back to China, I really can't be arsed with the hassle, I will simply put it down to experience and move on. Seeing as I've chosen to opt out of the warranty agreement I am going to have a play with it instead, see if I can figure out what's wrong with it then attempt to fix it, and if I do manage to get it functioning properly again then I shall mull over what do do, I have a couple of ideas for it. I'm pretty sure the thing needs a bigger case with a better cooling solution, so that's one direction to consider, the other is a little more involved. Do you remember those Acoustic Solution speakers I modified? Well, I'm wondering how they'd sound fully active.

That's a shame and it looks promising, you perhaps just got a bad sample.
I take it they won't send a replacement? Sometimes a video showing it going wrong is enough to elicit a replacement unit.

Nah Martin I am sure they would replace it if I asked, they seem to be a legit outfit, it's just that they're Chinglish is terrible and I can't spare the funds for an interpreter I am happy to have a play around inside it (ooer missus).

Thought it high time I popped in with a wee update, it's been quite a while, hasn't it?
Reading back I notice I was on a bit of a downer because I thought the Douk FX-Audio amp was dead (or dying). Turns out that the amp is fine, it just wasn't happy getting its juice from a Belkin power conditioner, so go figure. The main system hasn't seen the light of day for months ever since I discovered the convenience of streaming from a tablet via Bluetooth. I bought a BT gadget which inputs to the Douk which then outputs to my modified Acoustic Solution AV20's (which are awaiting the installation of new, beefier crossovers) and it is a fun little system. One thing it does far better than its bigger brother is sound good at low volume levels, which is ideal because we have neighbours both sides of us and I do like to listen to music until late in the evening on occasions.

Hello Dave, nice to see you pop in. I completely agree with streaming as a source: once you open up the libraries of Spotify, Qobuz etc. there is no going back! I think sounding flat at low volumes relates to how well your system does dynamics.
Trying to remember: is your avatar Rama?

I think sounding flat at low volumes relates to how well your system does dynamics. Trying to remember: is your avatar Rama? I am pretty sure it is down to the speakers (MA r852's), they sound fab when I turn the wick up but die a death at low volume. I still have the DM2's, which are polar opposites, but I can't afford to replace the knackered Coles tweeters at the moment, they are also a wee bit bulky for the room. As for my avatar, it is either the inside of Rama or it could be Thistledown from Greg Bears' novel, Eon. It's been so long since I sourced it that I really don't remember which

I was intrigued as it is such a striking image, Brian, and I like the Rama books very much (but didn't recall it as a cover). It seems this is a 'digital painting' called "New Eden" by the illustrator, Adam Benton and was inspired by the Rama as well as the Greg Bear books, but, as far as I can see, not used on their covers.

It's 'Dave' btw I am a huge sci-fi fan and was drawn into reading the genre as a kid by the fantastical cover art on Asimov's and Clarke's books, it expanded from there. My prized sci-fi art possession is a signed collection of scene painting prints by Ralph McQuarrie from the original Star Wars movie.

Get rid of the TV! I haven't had one for 20 years or so and do not miss it. I watch an occasional documentary, crime drama and Dr Who on the BBC iPlayer, but not often and never get as far as any of the other catch-up services. I still have a TV license though as I am a big fan of the concept of public service broadcasting, even though I rarely partake.
