Good write up, Martin. Pity I couldn’t make it in the end due to still feeling unwell.
My Dad still went with his friend and said he walked out of the show after 2 hours because it was pretty naff.

Don't see what the problem is. Surely everyone buys on how good the kit looks ...... ?

I forgot to add that I had a nice chat with the French guy from Qobuz. I asked him where I could best find news on new releases on Qobuz and he said 'Instagram'. Yeargh, is there not a better channel than that?
He was also dismissive of Spotify, calling it 'mp3' streaming. I tried correcting him but he wasn't having it. A bit disappointing, spreading disinformation.

In the Audiophiles UK Facebook club it's been suggested that the Bristol show was primarily a trade show. If so, it was misrepresented and a lot of attendees today might have been surprised about that. It in no way forgives the poor setup of many rooms, in my opinion. If I was trade I wouldn't want to sell some of the brands I heard today.

Sounds like they went looking for excuses.
If I were selling to trade I'd up my game and make certain all was perfect

I didn't go but my experience with past Bristol shows is that the reps spend an awful lot of time talking to each other quite loudly in the dem rooms and immediately outside. That certainly supports the notion of Trade Show status as a venue for trade networking and an unconcern for the paying punters and poor dem setup.

Sounds to me like they are stupid and not there to work. Stuns me what passes for sales. One of the classics from my training You have one mouth and two ears, use them accordingly. How many of these guys had any form of sales training and how much attention did they pay at the time ?! Salesmen are born not made - is a fallacy. I trained and worked bloody hard to be successful. Another classic in a similar vein. Dressed scruffy and decided to pop into an Estate Agent to get on their list for a substantial ticket price. Never had anything from them over months. Weeks later another agent took me into one of their properties, then being dual marketed. Dunno if they recognised me. Didn't like the place anyway Wasters Like most professions the vast majority are making up the numbers. Really good ones stand out

In the Audiophiles UK Facebook club it's been suggested that the Bristol show was primarily a trade show. It definitely wasn't and was not sold as such.
The new Wharfedale Linton Heritage and the Klipsch Forte sounded good and were set up well. I gave up in most rooms after arguments with 2 exhibitors who thought "compression and mastering" were artifacts of MP3. The JBL L100's could have been so good if it wasn't for the music played and the attitude of the salesman.
Our SP-10R attracted a lot of attention as did the £899 Technics SL-1500C, but as I can't advertise I can't tell you about the new 1500C !
It was very busy and I had a lot of networking to do, sorry if I missed anyone.

Sorry we couldn't have a chat, Dave. Thanks for the clarification: despite many rooms appearing to be disinterested in setting up or demonstrating without constant chat from the back, I didn't think it had the feel of a trade show.
Do by all means tell us about the new 1500C, I tried to have a listen but the room was full and I didn't return later.
