What is it about supermarkets running out of lettuce and other salad items? We're told that there is a shortage in Spain or wherever because of poor weather.
But, I want to say, what happened to our own product, grown in polytunnels or greenhouses? WTF can we not sustain salads in this country?

Not in season in the UK outdoors
I suppose we can grow things more suited to our climate. Probably more proftable fruit and veg
Once upon a time a few years ago lettuce was around in the summer. That was it
Glad to say I don't like lettuce much

I like salads, but lettuce just does nothing for me. It always seems to be there to occupy space on a plate and fool you into thinking there's more substances than there really is. It's only purpose for me is as a carrier for mayonnaise or salad cream.
Nothing to do with being in Cyprus, but I've always enjoyed Greek salad more than the typical English variety.

I'm with Andrew on this one, never really seen the point in Lettuce. My wife used to add lots of it on a salad but I just ended up throwing it away as I am not a fan taste wise, but also find it quite boring.

Iceburg lettuce has little or no flavour but if you think the other varieties are the same, you should try making it into soup. You will probably be rather surprised.

Are these real? If so, I can say that one lettuce is probably five times the money I have spent on lettuce in my lifetime. And even then, 90% of the lettuce I've bought has ended up in the bin when it went soggy. |

It's something that I try to weed out of a salad but which sometimes still manages to find its way into my mouth. I just have to get it out of there immediately. |

Rocket is some misguided chef's idea of a classy salad ingredient. Like raddicchio, it's just awful.

Yep, I had a sandwich from Pret A Manger that had Rocket in it and I ended up throwing away the majority of it because it was so nasty!
