It's simple Andr'e: some apps failed to start once a connection had been made and an update was pending.
Does that make sense to you?

I have nearly 300 updates ready, i refuse to do them, Everything works perfectly here. Are you sure it's the updates?

The only reason was to get the video player to work. Which it wasn't

Which version of Windows? There are several options to explore:
If Vista, XP or earlier, consider upgrading Windows if the hardware can take it. These old versions are no longer safe to connect to the internet.
If Windows 7, check to see if you have the latest Service Pack installed. SP1 will help bring you further up to date. Mind you, there are at least 100 updates after that.
If W8 or W10, then connect to broadband and bring it up to date. It may need doing in blocks with several restarts, but persevere. Then keep it updated once a month.
Leaving connected machines with loads of updates not done is just asking for trouble. There is some very nasty malware out there.
