TAS is pleased to announce the very first The ASBO (The Audio Standard Bake-Off) in the South as follows: Date: Saturday 29 April 2017 Venue: The Victory Hall, Farley Hill, RG7 1TR (close to Reading in the Thames Valley) Time: 4 - 10pm Attendance is by invitation only and the attendee must be a TAS member. Anyone may BAC (Bring a Component) and lots of music. There will be good sounds, good systems and good cheer as we meet to enjoy our common pursuit: the love of music well reproduced. Putting faces to names is always fun, too! The TAS Admin team are funding this inaugural event and hope to make it the first of many. The idea is a convivial gathering in order to try out system components and play music of every conceivable type according to taste. There are two rooms that we can use. We look forward to meeting many of you there! Please let us know if you wish to attend (send a PM to ChrisB, John, MartinT and comment here) and we'll maintain an attendance list. The Victory Hall

Great stuff. Fantastic to see you guys taking the initiative for the South of the country. Sadly don't think I'll be able to make it but wish you every success. It will be very popular I think.

It will depend on how easily (and cheaply) I can get there but I'd really like to come if it's possible. If I bring something it will likely be a small integrated amp or a phono stage. Can I confirm my attendance, say, four weeks before? You can stick me down as a provisional "yes" as I'm better than 50% likely to make it.

Depending on the room acoustics speakers may be a problem.
Speakers like my baffles may shine though.
I'm not sure if the date is suitable for me yet, so I cannot commit my presence, if I'm on the invitation list that is.
How would the organisers feel about my home made electrocution devices (sorry, my GK-71 monoblocks) ?

I'm not sure Philip. My first reaction is that I would love to hear them but I would be surprised if the insurers of the hall would be so keen for them to make an appearance there.

I would have thought it ok as long as they are never unattended while switched on.

Surely the landlord of the venu would have no idea if Philips amps are DIY or not, why involve them. I would love to hear Philips amps. Do we know the rough dimensions of the two rooms ?
