History of Music would be a great subject to study.
For people who say classical music is flat or stays at one level: I wish I could play them Stravinsky's Rite of Spring on my system.
That would de-cobweb their head.

Both Proms concerts I have been to recently were near sell outs which is great to see.
I was pondering the diversity question whilst waiting outside the venue - there was a reasonable showing of younger people and then I heard the pop of a champagne bottle behind me accompanied by 1950's RP English and it was as if all the stereotypes were confirmed in an instant ...

Deutsche Grammophon do behave yourselves.
Four 'singles' from Hilary Hahn's upcoming new album is both ridiculous and embarrassing. She's not Beyonce or the like ...
I'll wait for the album proper thanks very much.

Agreed, Jules. What a fantastic team Barenboim and his wife made in their early days.

How many classical music labels still don't release on streaming platforms?
The only one that I know without further research is Hyperion. They have just released a recording of the Telemann Fantasias by Alina Ibragimova which I am certain will be somewhere beyond sublime. Memories of her solo Bach at the Proms a few years ago linger long in my memory ... It's criminal how few people will hear it, but Hyperion obviously still believe in their business model so that's that ...

Looks fab but perhaps the lesson about the hall acoustics is that it's not easy to make a good hall out of a bad one.
The Barbican in London is perhaps the most disappointing for me: a custom-designed hall that needs electronic assistance but still misses the mark acoustically, sounding very dead and flat to my ears. The Festival Hall sounds better, but has a feeble organ meaning I don't like hearing anything like the Saint-Saens Symphony No.3 there. At least we can say that the Albert Hall was never designed for music but makes a decent fist of it with all the acoustic 'mushrooms' hanging down. And it has an organ that can move serious air.
Will London ever get the concert hall it really deserves?
That reminds me, Jules, we must go see a performance at the Birmingham Symphony Hall with its excellent reputation for sound.

Perhaps "Tartini Tones" are created by the special fuses in the necks of some older violins?

Interesting. Is Brazil the only source of Pernambuco wood? Calling ChrisB I'm not sure if the native habitat is limited to Brazil but it's a timber that can be, and is, grown as a plantation crop. CITES designation applies to species, not origin and the top level being sought here means that even products made 100 yrs ago could not be sold or transported from country to country. It's actually not that rare, but the high value is related to the tiny market and the logistics of getting it out of where it grows. The whole issue is a smokescreen to make the Brazilian govt. seem to care about conservation and the hope is the ensuing controversy from the music industry will divert attention away from the real damage that is being done to rainforest. They tried this exact same tactic 25 or so years ago and it nearly succeeded.
