Hello all
Just joined after being alerted by a friend regarding the Exposure thread. I'm the guy with the 4 mono XVIs: Farlowe's finest creations. Preamp is from the Toy Brady school - an MCX, which easily bests any of the old school versions. And no, I'm not selling any of it...
JF is still alive and well, living in Thailand (I believe), and actually doing marketing work for Naim. You can catch him on FB.

Hello, everyone...I just joined. Feels good to be here!
Been reading the thread on old Exposure amplifiers and the recent posts, especially the one on Mono XVI, gave me the impetus to jump into the pool.
I run two separate Exposure systems side by side, one with bi-amped Super VIII's and the other with a Dual Regulated IV...both running from a VII preamp fed by a XII psu, switching back and forth between the two through either Epos ES11 or Royd Abbot speakers, as the mood strikes.
There seems to be so much interest in the old Exposure amps, it's quite amazing to note the love and devotion to them.
I started some years ago with an integrated XV but when I dove headlong into the world of tubes and high sensitivity speakers, I gave that XV to my brother who loves it, so musical through his standmounted Proac Response 1's...he's so pleased.
Early last year I re-entered the world of Exposure with the two Super VIII's. The Dual VII came first with a VI psu, quickly followed by a XI preamp with XII psu. After a while, I gravitated to using the VII with the XII.
There are other bits and bobs around the house but I will leave that to another day...
Great to be here!

Hello all JF is still alive and well, living in Thailand (I believe), and actually doing marketing work for Naim. You can catch him on FB. I had read somewhere that he's in Penang Island in northern Malaysia but since Thailand is not far away, it might well be that he's moved over there or shuttling between the two, possibly. Anybody knows for certain?

The Roman numeral model numbering system is very confusing to those who haven't been fully exposed(!) to these products. Is there a simple way for the unenlightened to know what on earth you are all talking about?! Far too many X's and V's and thats even before you start thinking about all those cheeky little I's.

Poor show. I was looking forward to being blessed with the keys to the knowledge of the numbers!

Indeed, the Exposure runes seem to consist of 'X', 'V' and 'I'.

There is no pattern to it that I know of, it's just familiarity with the Roman numerals . Sorry old chap. There's no pattern in terms of certain numerals for pre, certain for power; but they are sequential. There was an original I/II (1/2) pre-power, then a III/IV (3/4) pre-power). Then: V was an active crossover VI was a pre-amp PSU VII a pre-amp (there was an Exposure Expander to allow the VII pre to have additional inputs. Confusingly, it wasn't numbered) VIII was a power amp (followed by a Super VIII, and Mono VIIIs) IX was the professional pre PSU X the first integrated (they did keep the integrated in +5 steps, i.e. X, XV, XX, XXV) XI/XII - pre and pre PSU XIII - the first phono amp XIV - professional pre (used with the IX PSU) XV - integrated XVI - the brutal mono power amps XVII - pre XVIII - power (followed by Super XVIII and Mono XVIII) XIX - line only pre XX - Integrated XXI - pre XXII - "New Classic series" CD Player XXIII - "New Classic series" pre XXV - "New Classic series" integrated XXVIII - "New Classic series" power amp The Original CDP didn't seem to have a number either. I believe the design was attributed to both Farlowe and Kevin Edwards (?), who went on to form Talk Electronics. The last Farlowe creation (possibly a Brady/Farlowe Hybrid) was the XXIII pre amp. All others since have been Tony Brady-led designs. www.exposurehifi.com/images/pdf/testupload/Classic_VI_6_VII_7_IX_9_Expander_-_Pre_Amplifiers.pdfHope this helps?
