How many Black Ravioli do you have under each of your grounding boxes MartinT Mostly three except the big Silent Point, which has four.

It's mostly expedience. The Aucharms stack nicely with three, for instance. Four won't fit.

One is ok if placed centrally under Aucharms or Silent Points Mine are now all in use
Your Black Ravioli supports come to more than the grounding boxes they support

Your Black Ravioli supports come to more than the grounding boxes they support It's possible that the compression for one footer is better than several, but I think what you gain with compression you lose with surface area for damping the component. I don't understand your sentence above? Do you mean the BR shelves that I use? The grounding boxes have their own BR footers over and above the BR shelves they're sitting on.

I meant what I have called the Mk 3 before Seem to be called Big Pads now www.blackravioli.com/store/pads/One of these under each of my grounding boxes

Oh, I see now. I use Pads for most of the smaller components, including grounding boxes, and Big Pads for all the main system components. Everything has three or more levels of isolation.
I like the Pads in threes or fours and they work well. I also like that they attach with a sticky underside and stay put.

Pads are half the height of Big pads. See pros and cons to them being sticky The little platform I grabbed from John has 4 pads stuck underneath Both the AM conditioner and RTZ3 have pads. Found the Big pads made a reasonable difference to sound Then I placed the Big pads under the pads as they were there. Not sure about the difference, need to have a go at both

Shifting the Clocks DownstreamTonight I scratched an itch. Reading about the Gustard X26 Pro elsewhere, particularly in the Head-Fi forum, quite a few owners have found gains by using an external clock, including AfterDarks of lesser quality than mine. I had concluded during my earlier testing that the Gustard's internal K-2 clock is really excellent so I left things alone. However, I wanted to revisit that, so I shuffled things around like so...
| Before | After | EtherREGEN | AD King | internal | Mutec | AD Emperor Triple Crown | AD King | Gustard | internal | AD Emperor Triple Crown |
The thing about Gustard's K-2 is that it is a very competent clock synthesiser for all the sampling rate frequencies required, as well as a master clock. So using an external clock doesn't discard much of the K-2's functionality. In any case, this has been instructive. It doesn't sound worse, it sounds different and possibly better. I'm still very much listening and the components I had to switch off will need some more settling time. It sounds very structural with a strong rhythmic foundation and more potent bass. The sounstage seems bigger and deeper. More in a day or two after I've adjusted.

I made one more change that consolidated the 'unlocking' of more performance from my system after moving the clocks downstream as in the post above. I switched power supplies between the EtherREGEN and AfterDark King, giving the former Weiliang 12V and the latter Coherent 12V. This follows the theme of higher quality further downstream and also ensures that I am not breaking the isolation moat in the EtherREGEN.
There is so much more shape to notes and an even darker background. Music is more naturally presented, dynamics snappier and the sense of rhythm pervades throughout. Note decay is fantastic and there is more air and space in the soundstage.
Not a bad free upgrade, then. I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner, but such is the nature of experimenting.

This is how it's laid out now (it actually took me longer to modify the diagram than to carry out for real). There's a better sense of increasing quality from left to right, associated with better PSUs and clocks.

Tonight I'm listening to the combined effects of shifting the clocks downstream and upgrading the Gustard firmware, two zero-cost mods.
I'm hearing a considerable increase in note decay, soundstage acoustic, natural reverb, all the things that inform you of the performance space. Next is some improvement to the fundamentals, the structure supporting the music. It sounds more vivid and powerful. Also at this level is the removal of a slight glassy sheen in the upper midrange. Finally, there is just more fine detail than before.
The overall sound is more alive, more real, more exciting, less fatiguing.

It looks like you really need another clock Martin, to feed the EtherRegen!
Cheers. Bill

With all your experimentation Martin, if ever you find any of your system pieces become superfluous, let me know. It may be 'just what I didn't know I needed.'

I've sold lots already, Brett, like old clocks. I do have some components to sell but I think the system is pretty stable now, so I'm unlikely to move anything currently in the system on. I'll let you know if I do!

I'm looking at adding a second grounding box to my system. Where did you get your Silent Point box from Martin?

Hi Brett, the Silent Point grounding box was purchased from AliExpress. Bought it, thanks. Not a bad price at £153 including import duty. Just have to sell something to pay for it!
