Those tannoys are 90db, I bet you were using 86 or 87 previously.
I think it's just the sensitivity of the new speakers, or the amp was faulty prior to the new speakers and they now show up the fault more than your old pair did.

There's also Colin Hood Audio just outside Edinburgh. Pre65 is right though,Bluebell are very well thought of. If you are anywhere near there try and get a listen to a MusicArch 309B.
Good luck.

Valves are microphonic so draw no conclusions by tapping valves. Don't tap valves. Damp them if you like various products on the market. Google valve dampers. Some valves are more microphonic than others. So you may need to change a valve. You try that by switching positions and see if noise follows change.
Bad contacts with bases (Ithink you are referring to a base when you say seat) make a sound like rustling leaves which is very distracting, and has to be fixed. Good practice is to pull valves in and out of bases a few times to keep the contacts from oxidising.
If the hum was a design issue you would have always experienced it. Hum usually is a design issue in a valve amp, so I wouldn't rule that out. But it can be a lot simpler, like an earth loop, or a fault in the source. We test for that by plugging in a dead short to the inputs and running the power amp with no source. Has the hum gone?
Not forgetting the obvious. Try old speakers again. Is hum back to what it always was? Then it's a design issue. Buy a better designed amp.

You live and learn Afetr a few conversations with Bluebell audio problem is now resolved. 2 sets of AT and AX7 valves have bit the dust, replaced them with 2 sets of tungsol and eh valves i have but have never used, nasty noises, insane buzzing etc etc all gone. Still and slight hum from the speaker but you have to be tight against the cabinet to notice it. Phil is a really nice guy, walked me thro what i had to do, i did it and reported back to him, and all seems well, amp playing happily all weekend.
At least i know know a few things i didnt and i also know if i ever have a problem with the amp i have someone I can contact and take it to that isnt a million miles away.
Thanks again for everyones input

Well you threw us all a curve ball there after saying you'd swapped all the valves out!
Glad you got it sorted.
