Not that I'm aware of. Better would be to find the circuit topology: does it have a 1-bit DAC or Sony chipset, for instance? That would be like my Ayre, playing DSD natively. Otherwise, it'll be doing a partial transcode to, say, 4-bit and then going through a PCM decoder. Sounds like some weekend reading, Thanks Martin

You got me looking at SACDs on ebay. There are some good titles still available, plus some of mine are worth a fortune now!

Strangely enough, I was looking for Moody Blues titles some weeks ago, just out of curiosity, and there was none, Martin (The Mercenary).

Nah, I never sell my music so they have no value.

Don't bother. Original vinyl rules. Martin which SACD of WYWH do you have? The Analogue Productions release is up with the best vinyl versions IMO.

I'll need to check when I get home, Paul.
I do agree that great SACDs are utterly stunning while poorer ones are no better than the CD.

Yes, my WYWH is the Analogue Productions SACD. It's superb, as is the EMI SACD of DSOTM. I wish Animals would be released on SACD, for me that's a masterwork, too.

I recently bought a Japanese SACD of Argus - Wishbone Ash , Geffen Records UIGY-9619 , I thought it was ok till I played my MCA re-mastered CD , huge difference . I paid a tidy penny for the SACD as well

It looks like Dire Straits S/T and Dire Straits - Communique are both to be released on SACD by Mobile Fidelity. Excellent! Diverse Vinyl

Brothers in Arms sounds superb on SACD, but sadly it's not a patch musically on the first two albums.

From the inner sleeve : Re-mix by Martin Turner digitally remastered by Eric Kvortek That is the shambles of which I spoke. It's awful! The 2007 remastering by Paschal Byrne is the one to have, which I believe is the one you have on the SACD. The only problem with the SACD version is that it's very, very quiet, and if your system doesn't have sufficient gain it will come across very poorly. The CD of this mastering is a fair bit louder. www.discogs.com/Wishbone-Ash-Argus/release/4234346

I can't recommend it. Badly mastered and too loud (loud SACD master on all MB titles I have). Stick to the original vinyl ! The packaging is really nice is all I can say about the SACD unless you need the extra tracks.

At least you'll be comparing like with like, even if you're not comparing apples with apples.
