This is the best can opener I know, I would never be without one. The Lift Off. It works differently from any other kind I've seen, and gives a seamless opening (the lid and seam are cut off in one motion).

I have managed to rationalise that although I *want* to, hitting with a hammer won't solve the many problems. Plus the IT lot will get upset
