I tend to prefer optical too. Stans optical cable is very good indeed. A chip is on it`s way from Stan. Looking forward to it. Please report back what's changed after installing it.

The Caiman will continue to ship with the standard firmware. The Super Firmware is a separate upgrade. Thanks for the clarification. I understand it's an upgrade, but I thought it could be a "factory option" at an additional cost? I think you have to bear in mind what a bargain this DAC is I rate it as high as JK Cunas DAC when using Stan's cable and a lot more versatile If you get a decent power supply this DAC gives a great performance that you have to spend a lot more to beat

I understand how good this DAC is based on the comments on the forums. I just thought that if it was offered as an upgrade option, people less inclined to do DIY could benefit from the upgrade.

Just swapped.
American Beauty Soundtrack (the various artists one) is very well made and I was most impressed with the quality today. Seemed better than I'd heard it before.
<Muppet changes chip> Thanks to Stan's clear instructions (no aluminium foil BTW) even I managed it.
Back on Wow. That is a difference. I was expecting subtle, perhaps I was straining to hear More oomph, detail, bass, even volume to me ears
Superb VFM and 5 minutes well spent.
Well done Stan (How does he do it ?)

Mike throw another £5 at it and stick a MG fuse in it. I bought a couple and put one in the capella. Not as big a difference but every little helps.

Can anyone who uses Airfoil give the Caiman fitted with the super firmware a try? I have had one person reporting that he is getting a signal interrupt every few seconds with Airfoil. So I want to add it to the list of things that the super firmware might not be compatible with.

I have no idea. I haven't bought one to try, but it looks interesting. And it even looks like something that I could improve upon once I get one. But right now I have loads of power supplies already, so I don't want to increase my collection for now.
