Great start to 2016. Any "first day advice" guys, been working freelance for a while now but this is a different ballgame! Jobs office based, meeting with Clients etc further down the line. Looking forward to the new challenge....so not worried or obsessing about it. Just wondering if there's any useful insight out there. thanks chaps.

Good luck!
My advice - wear decent shoes, you can tell a lot about a person from their footwear.
No brown in town.

Stay late and have a natter with the cleaner. You'll find out everything there is to know about everything and everyone.

Good luck from me as well. Do as I say, not as I do and follow the second 'Doctor's' advice Keep your eyes open and your mouth shut, at least until you have a hang on the place....

Whatever contact software you use (likely Outlook), make a note of everyone important, and how/when you met them, so that you remember them down the line.
The other advice (speak to the cleaner, listen but don't say much) is sage.

Yup cleaners and caretakers have all the goss and are very good people to be on the right side, as most people tend to snub them All the best Gary, I'm starting a new job in February - onwards and upwards.

Thanks very much guys, some sagely info there as you say Martin. Well done Tim, onwards and upwards as you say mate. So much for the quiet life! Seeing the first day really as an extension of my interview, first impressions and all that... Main thing is I'm quite relaxed about it, but focussed on the job at hand as I know I've done the prep for it. Just be myself, be friendly, ask questions if need be and get the lie of the land. Will take a while, but sure I'll get there.

Agree with all the above, but have to add, stay sober and leave the chocolate brownies alone!
Good luck Gary, I hope it works out.

Yep, all of the above - ask questions, but not too many, and be in receive mode not transmit mode, unless asked. And good luck to you, Gaz, and Tim!

Good luck with the job Gary. I'm on the lookout for a new job myself. The current one finishes in April.

Best of luck.
Always dress slightly smarter than the average. 1st day smarter than normal and tweak it back if necessary. Meeting clients probably means pretty smart anyway
As other have said ears way more than mouth Ask loads of questions and make notes where you need to
Reinforce you are there to do good things

Propositioned by gorgeous women ? That happened to me many years ago, started going out with the Boss's PA. She was rather a catch. We did keep it very quiet, though
