Now here's one
Comsat Angels - Chasing Shadows
Just arrived and my first play. I love it already Who do they sound like ? Er Comsat Angels
Allmusic says Erroneously regarded as a synth pop band -- and, every now and then, as a band that peaked with a song placed in a scene of Real Genius -- the Comsat Angels were one of the finest bands of the post-punk/new wave era. Often as moody if less dramatic than Joy Division, their first and best albums -- 1980's Waiting for a Miracle, 1981's Sleep No More, and 1982's Fiction -- featured abstract pop songs with spare instrumentation, many of which were bleak and filled with some form of heartache. The albums were almost unrelentingly sullen, but they were always transfixing. The band then fell prey to various commercial pressures for several years. In the '90s they resurfaced with a pair of powerful albums that resembled logical extensions of their earliest work, and then they vanished again.
Angst-Ridden Brooding Melancholy Plaintive Restrained Stylish Autumnal Eerie Gloomy Ominous Tense/Anxious Cerebral Earnest Ethereal Hypnotic Paranoid Rousing Weary
Guess that sums them up. A unique sound so far as I know

I can't remember among the pile of music I've bought whether I have Rosanne Cash or not! I'm not sure if Rosanne will be your thing Martin, but worth a try though. I have all her albums but can recommend the above recent one, The List is also good and is comprised from a list given to her by Johnny when she was 18 of what he considered to be the best country songs, from memory he gave her a list of 100, so this is a snapshot - Silver Wings written by Merle Haggard is wonderful. I also rate Black Cadillac very highly - deeply personal with some very emotive songwriting, written in memory of Johhny, June Carter Cash and Vivian Liberto Cash Distin (her mother). All are on Spotify - I think out of them though you might prefer Black Cadillac the most and its most definitely not what I would call a 'country' album.
