I really wish I had bought every one of those Nimbus Supercuts when they were released. My Miles Davis, Rickie Lee Jones and Joan Armatrading are all outstanding. I have quite a few of them and once assumed they must be the best. Of the titles I have only Joan Armatrading and possibly Santana Borboletta can't be beat by either an original or a more recent Audiophile pressing. Even the ultra valuable Wish You Were Here only wins on being flat and quiet. It's not as good as a first press but really quiet does not exist here and I would probably just prefer the recent EMI reissue if it was flat and devoid of a few pops. I did have the Pepper but it was stolen 20 years ago when valued at £25. The RLJ is bettered by the Rhino of few years back and the recent MFSL 45 rpm (by a wide margin). Some titles suffer from boosted treble which does not sound so impressive on modern more revealing systems. That smiley face Eq thing was also a problem with many of the original Mo-Fi reissues. While I don't regard 180 grm a prerequisite for better sound I don't think the very thin vinyl Nimbus used aids bottom end weight. If you like Kind Of Blue try and listen to the Classic Records 200 grm version (which now will be getting pricey itself).

I've never been very impressed with Mo-Fi pressings. I have Pink Floyd DSOTM on Mo-Fi and, frankly, it's pretty poor with soupy ill-defined bass. The SACD leaves it stone dead.

For an affordable DSOTM on vinyl that sounds good try the 30th Anniversary (2003) - I think there may still be some around. It is far better than the current reissue and pretty close to my A3/B3 pressing. I briefly had the Mo-Fi and found it rather underwhelming for the cost.

However, the EMI SACD is very good, as is the Alan Parsons quadraphonic mix on DVD-A.

Fans of The Voice will remember this wonderful lady from last years series. I have deep respect for this woman because she had a reasonably successful career in her younger years as a singer/songwriter as well as performing lead vocals for a few bands. She fronted folk band The Poozies and has supported acts such as Wishbone Ash and Fairport Convention both in her role as a solo artist and with her various groups. She gave up her career for a while in 2003 too take care of her two boys, Dillon and Ben, after her husband, Chris Wakeford, tragically died of an illness. Her early albums are in the process of being re-mastered and re-released and a few are now available on Spotify. Give them a listen, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by this lady's talent and versatility both as an artist and songwriter

Brilliant album Chris. Really liking this, Tim, and now have a ticket to see them on 13th November in Winchester. Buy you a drink! It's certainly a grower Martin, I liked it from the get go. A Guinness or red wine always puts a smile on this old codgers face, looking forward to it . . . playing now (again!)
House of Hates - This Love2014 One of the standout acts for me at Maverick Festival this year were a new discovery, House of Hats from Brighton, absolutely wonderful and the line to buy their CD and meet them after their set was huge. Bob Harris was impressed too and played them for the first time this weekend - one to watch maybe? Wonderful harmonies, great songwriting and some sultry beguiling female vocals from Al-Anoud Al-Omran a.k.a ‘Noddy’ from Kuwait, who has been likened to Beverley Martyn. "House of Hats revel in complex simplicity, with harmonies cascading into, over, through and beneath one another. But behind vocal pyrotechnics that suggest a younger Crosby, Stills and Nash, there's a solid songwriting heart and the production by Pete Smith transcends any folk cliches. They're at their most exhilarating on 'No Man', but their real calling card is tenderness: it abounds here."John Aizlewood, Q Magazine, April 2014 https%3A//soundcloud.com/houseofhats/sets/house-of-hats-compilation
