Just to share some empirical "evidence" to back up my opinion.
Some years ago I asked on Freecycle for non working hi-fi to practice my fault finding skills. I was offered a Pioneer SX7730 receiver that only worked on one channel, and set about mending it.
I found details on the web about how to check the transistor biasing, and that was all OK. Turns out the problem was a gungy selector switch which responded to a clean.
So it worked, it made a not unpleasant sound but that was it. In the end it was passed to a friend (with a freebie pair of outdoor speakers) for use in his covered barby area in the garden.
So, I did learn a little, and spent no money. but would I do it again ? NO.

Cleaned up the unit and today made a heath-robinson aerial out of some old video cable, the wire from the top of last years calendar and twisted it around two metal shelf brackets that are screwed conveniently into the wall within reach. Tuned into classic FM and the unit sounds as sweet as a nut, well worth what I paid for it.

The first thing I'd do is remove that ungainly wooden foot. I prefer my units to be level.

Yes, it'll affect the tuning

No, don't remove it, find replacements for the two that fell off the back.

You would have thought Pioneer would have had the grace to stain them the same colour wouldn't you?
(pre65; sorry to rib you, it is only meant in harmless fun)

No worries, a bit of banter is OK.

I am using the Linto with a pair of borrowed Vector 10's and the homemade aerial and managing to get a great deal of pleasure out of it. I may even hook up a tape deck and turntable eventually. Sometimes modest things satisfy because expectations are not so high.

I now have the following second system; daRktoweR 9009 PC - Denon CD510 - Akai GX cassette deck - Roxbrough inter-connect x 2 - Wharfedale Linton - lawnmower cable - Sony NX1's
It's making lovely sounds and thanks to Slinger I am getting hooked on Mahler. I'm enjoying it so much I haven't listened to my primary system at all this week.

Picked up a pair of Wharfedale Linton 2's for £21, they have replaced the NX1's and I am now getting an even more enjoyable sound from a system I bought on a shoestring.

They were a bit of a starter system staple back when they were new. Very stylish purple tweeters!

I seem to remember the Wharfedale cabinets of that era as being very solidly made.

Those drivers look distinctly like non-originals. None of them fit their cut-outs!

As we are in the amp section, what does anyone think to the Nobsound MS-10D, (I understand it's pronounced Norb-sound)?

I do love the way designer think these days, for those romantic night in and you can't see the controls they put lamps on the amp to help you. A lovely touch I think better than LED's in Blue, that warm rich glow of the incandescent lamp or candle can't be superseded ever.

A touch inefficient those lamps, I think?

A touch inefficient those lamps, I think? But lovely and the sound they make is getting close to a proper SECA design with Blue LED's Good morning world. coffee time
