I see both sides of the case. I too find my music on spotify which is a great music discovery tool. And yes saves me hundreds in CDs that I listen to once then shelve. If Tidal was better in sound quality tan cd, maybe it is and I don't know, then I would go that route. I would probably still by the very best albums so I have them to keep should I bail out of the streaming service in the distant future. But my hunch is that I will always be with a streaming service as they are a brilliant idea. And I can only see them getting better

Your stance here is just like the one you have with your gear! (and that's great by the way). You find the excitement in the chase, while enjoy the chase, but I relish the kill!! Haha! - yes, you are right. I hadn't thought of it like that.

Do you have a Spotify Premium account, John? If not, then you're not getting the benefit of their high bitrate streams.

Yes and was streaming via cat 7 (which is better than the USB for Spotify in my system) In the past it used to be hard to separate but with Bug Head the difference to big to enjoy for serious listening

For me, the word "computer" is synonymous with glitches, patches, updates, freezing, crashing, loading bars, hassle, runaround, grief and many more. It's simply incompatible with enjoying music for me right now. When somebody produces a product that is as seamless and foolproof to use as a CD player, I will think again. Right now I'd sooner do without music than use computer audio.

As part of which OS or runnable image, Greg? I don't think it works on Volumio. OK Martin, I can now be more detailed in reply to your question. My Pi is set up with O/S Logitech Forum LMS 7.9. ickStream is then used as a sub program to facilitate use of Tidal. I hope that helps.

Yep, I agree absolutely. No room for a CDP in my system now because the streamed option either from the web or from stored files on my PC sounds so much better..........no bollocks here, it really does sound better! It's caused me to completely rethink about my system set up. Options to remove a large ugly rack and use a much smaller and nice looking one. As radio is also available through streaming, all I need in my system is the TT, RPi with dedicated PSU, Beresford Caiman II also with dedicated PSU, my PSU feeding my valve pre and separate phono stage, going into my valve power amp. I have a DVD player but that and probably much of the rest of the kit could sit in the TV support unit. The power amp does need ventilation which is a controlling factor. Things are a'changing.

I rely on Software for some things i do but always have an option to use a Physical thang, i would never ever solely rely on it. Computer based this & that is like fashion, it wont be arounds long so dont get used to using what you are using imho

Really interesting And wood you say there is a difference is audio quality between stored files and live streaming ?

I was as resistant as hell, especially as I had heard and used other folks' streaming systems and not been impressed. But I got nagged (and nagged and nagged) by an audio buddy. He insisted that all the faff that people go through is simply not necessary. Just connect your laptop USB output to the USB input of your DAC, he said. OK OK - get off my back willya, I'll try that, for crying out loud. And I did, and it worked. 1 cable, that's all the extra kit I use for my super-duper sounds-amazing live streaming system.
And it slightly betters my fave Pioneer DV-737 as a digital source into my DAC.

Yes I remember some of the debates we use to have so was a surprise when you went down this route

Now that sounds simple enough. It would mean an extra dac but not much of a hassle.Cheers, Jerry. I have to say I struggle to see why manufacturers aren't seeing the opportunity to make a plug and play Hifi solution. I hate multiple boxes and wires as much as I do Microsoft, PCs and all "tecH".
