Some recent finds from a boot fair. Cost a £1 each All are on the earliest labels with vinyl in mint condition so I'm very pleased Paul Tortelier and Jenn Hubeau playing Faure 's Elegie and two Sonatas on Erato STE 50 101 is a beautiful recording. More info on early Erato recordings here fischer.hosting.paran.com/music/Erato-lps/erato-ste50101-50.htm

Blimey that's a good result! Even the covers look in tip-top condition ... I've never been to a boot fair - maybe I should now!
Tortelier playing Faure must be fabulous. I notice you also have Balakirev 1 - it's well worth a listen if you enjoy the Russian composers as I do ... I have it on EMI/Melodiya coupled with Rach's mighty 'Caprice Bohemien' ...

Yes, I quite like the Balakirev symphony No 1. It was originally released on Columbia CX 1450 in mono only as the release date preceded the birth of stereo vinyl. However, it was obviously recorded in stereo as well and for whatever reason HMV chose to make the budget price SXLP 30002 the first stereo issue rather than on the full price SAX label. Yes covers are all pretty much in mint condition. It is possible to get lucky at boot fairs. Those shown in the pic are just 8 out of over 40 I bought all the same condition and price. The seller said they came from a house clearance at a vicarage. They were obviously looked after very well.

Another sublime Argo recording recently acquired near mint from Oxfam. Dvorak Mass in D - ZRG 781. Argo is just so reliable and absolutely one of my favourite labels - huge soundstage and depth to this and just loving it loud!

Nice find, there are some great gems on the ARGO label and SQ is always excellent. Do you have Noye's Fludde? It's worth getting just to see how good a recording can really be.

I just don't have a bad Argo pressing!
I used to sing Britten when I was a chorister but haven't really explored his work since ... Will take a listen to this - it's a valuable record with the oval Argo as I'm sure you know!

Will take a listen to this - it's a valuable record with the oval Argo as I'm sure you know! I've grown to like a lot of his works and generally the recordings are of high quality. I only paid a pound for the Noye's Fludde but they probably average around the £50 mark, which is not that unreasonable particularly given the astonishing prices some recordings have been changing hands for recently.

Indeed - the lp is TAS listed so that always bumps up the price considerably ...

Indeed - the lp is TAS listed so that always bumps up the price considerably ... One with the later label are still quite reasonable. I popped into an Oxfam near where I am working this lunchtime and picked up this for £1.99. Record is in near mint condition. I've not played it yet and I'm not familiar with this work so it might be a pleasant surprise.

Just dropped into Oxfam and found a copy of Jessye Norman's 'Four Last Songs' with Kurt Masur ...
I listened to lots of different versions a while back and found her interpretation to be my favourite, so very pleased with this and looking forward to giving it a spin ...

Happy days at Oxfam again ... A nice looking copy of Schubert 9 / Krips - classic recording on a later Decca SPA re-release. Generally these are superb sounding.
