I had read it but didn't interpret it properly. I'll go stand in the corner...

...and in other news this week, I have just had a sniff of a pair of Acoustic Research AR-LSTs which could be donor units for the pair I already own. I have made the owner a very good offer. Let's see what he says.
Exciting!

Now that's a project I want to read about, Chris. It's a long, long time since I heard LSTs.

OK, back to the super tweeter project. I spent a couple of hours working on this today. Finished off the edges and cleaned up the holes first. Next, I attached some stainless steel mesh to the back of each hole. The holes are 16mm and the mesh is 20mm. Here's a peek at it where you can see the results of my perspex bending adventures. Next, I attached a couple of the little pockets which I had made, to the back of the frames. These are shaped and positioned so that the Batpures sit in them snugly and line up with the centre of the holes. When the glue here has set I'll flip 'em over and attach the other two. Wiring next.

Chris, I've been experimenting with the Batpures for close to a couple of years now. I've had them on a few speaker designs and as I'm building the speakers I've even tried them inside the cabinet at the back of the driver! Just a couple of thoughts to plant in your conscious evaluation... # Because they reach so high (claimed 150kHz) they can have strong effects on perception of the sound source location. Diffusion, as you have, is certainly beneficial. Positioning as close as possible to your high frequency output removes some potential conflict. # One of their greatest strengths is the improvement in speed; the starting and stopping of sounds. I think this is the reason they can make sounds more realistic. # Whatever changes you think you hear in the audible frequency range are your own internal processing of these ultra high vibrations; there is no output under 20lHz. # I found it easy to hear the effects on soundstaging, particularly if you compare different siting positions for them; rear mounting gives deep but recessed, front mounting can be rather forward and shouty, etc. This and the speed tend to occupy one's evaluation but negative effects take a bit of time, as they relate to the more emotive elements of enjoying music. # I personally haven't continued with them in my wideband speakers, only because I found their contribution stands out too much in combination with the inherent coherence of a single wideband driver. Also my current project required some output below 20kHz. I'm going to revisit them actually mounted in the centre of the driver. Looking forward to your impressions and whether you think they give with one hand and take with the other

There are speakers everywhere in this house now - they're taking over!

Yeah, I have to admit it, it's probably too much - 2 pairs of AR LST, 2 pairs of AR 2ax, a pair of massive Mirage M3si, a pair of SD Acoustics OBS, 2 pairs of Genexxa Pro LX5 in this house and another load in our place in Lincolnshire

This pair of LSTs are actually pretty nice. The bass drivers are....well, let's say, they have 'patina, commensurate with their age'. The tweeters are all original and in very good condition. Mid drivers too. The cabinets need a little work, but not much. The grille cloth needs replacing too, but the drivers are the important thing and they are great.

Speaking as someone who has too many speakers and too much kit That's too many speakers !

The bass drivers have seen better days! I hope you can get the roll surrounds as easily as I found the Gale ones.

Well, I suppose I could get rid of one of the pairs of the Genexxas. That would even it up to the same number as we have now!
