I might do that if I can ever work out how to get the grilles off!

I have the same problem for the bass drivers!

I just assumed those round grilles would just pop off. My speakers require the top trim panel to be removed and I have tried and tried but can't work out how to do it.

They should indeed "pop off" but they are highly resistant. I shall try slipping a credit card into the gap and see if I can prise them out.

I was doing a favour for a member today, which meant having to remove one of the bolts that attach the arm base to the armboard of the G99. When I replaced it, I thought I'd just check the others. Well, shit-me-britches if they weren't all loose! Nipped 'em up a bit and I'm now savouring a big improvement. How the hell did I let that happen? Lesson learnt! There you go Do 'the right thing' and get bonuses Big improvment sounds very nice

After a fairly long spell with the Levinsons, I'm thinking I may plumb up the Radford this weekend - I feel like reacquainting myself with its charms for a while.

I received a second Raspberry Pi this morning. Ten minutes work and it's up and running, playing into a Beresford 7520 through the big system. It won't stay there though, as it's going into the system in the bedroom. I'll be playing files wirelessly from the NAS and Spotify on it there through another StanDac, into the Yamaha CR-2010 reciever and Acoustic Research speakers.

Have you found any kind of metal case for your Pi? I'm still looking for one for my RPi 2 with HiFiBerry Digi+ as I feel sure it'll sound better shielded (and so will everything else).

There's a metal one I linked to just above my post of tonight in your big pi thread. A bit pricy though. The hifiberry folks say they will eventually get around to making the pi/berrry dac one to fit the digi+. That is the one I will wait for unless I can find something else beforehand. Still looking!

After spending a couple of hours with the new Pi in the upstairs system, I have to say that it's pretty good just via the USB connection. There's something great about using a weeny little £40 pip-squeak of a source like this into a vintage into a system made up of classic components. I wonder what the original owners of the Yamaha receiver and AR speakers would have said back in 1976 or whenever, if I told them I was getting this sort of sound out of a box the size of a fag packet and what's more the several hundred albums I can play are stored in a box the size of a fat paperback in another room and there are no wires connecting them!

More to my taste "Technology is what you call things that don't work yet" So it can't be that

NVA Balanced Mains UnitThe arrival of a new major piece of gear for the main system is a rare event in this house, with the most recent purchases having been focused around extra sources, so today was a bit of a special one. After having had a short spell in the possession of an NVA BMU while it was on its way to my friend Steve, I tried it in the system for a few hours. This was thanks to the NVA Equipment Loan Scheme. That short period was all it took to convince me of its efficacy in the context of my system. So much so that I stumped up the cash and bought one. It arrived today and here it is stuck in front of the big Levinson. It'll go to its proper position sometime over the weekend but for now it's doing its stuff rather nicely where it is. Just for the sake of keeping this thread as an up to date record of what's going on with my gear, here's what I wrote in the BMU thread:

Nice, Chris. Glad you're hearing the benefits of mains treatment.

How do you like my BMU support table with built in cup holder and toothbrush storage for the whole family?!

I was thinking it's rather 1960s 'Jetsons' in appearance.

If Russ Andrews sees it, I expect a four figure price tag

Ha! I had to get it off the floor and above dog paw level. So as a temporary fix, I bought some hairpin legs and flipped my old Goldring G99 plinth prototype upside down on them. I really like the look of it actually, so I may make a proper one but without the toothbrush holders.

I may have to sell the BMU. It's driving the dog mad! He keeps hearing things that he's never heard before on recordings I've played countless times. The latest is on Chelsea Girls by Nico - a couple of tracks have scratchy guitar-body type sounds buried deep in the right channel and he seems to be convinced that there's someone, or something at the back door. He's yelling his lungs out and there's nothing I can do to stop him except skip to the end of the track. .....on second thoughts, does anybody want a dog?
