I have a similar thing about the Technics SP10, having never seen one that really seems to gel aesthetically. Speedy Steve's slate plinth for his SP10 is rather nice, perhaps you should PM him for a photo.

He posted one in his blog yesterday - is it still the same as that? Although it's nice it still doesn't sit right with my sense of aesthetic design. I think SP10s really need to be flush mounted and the plinth needs some elements that are colour matched to the plinth. It's something to do with those slab sides and the way that the whole chassis isn't symmetrical due to the need for platter to be close to the right hand edge. I'm actually just going with birch ply for this plinth, Martin. I'm considering adding some slate later as a base unit.

Yes, it's the same one. I thought it looked rather purposeful. I don't see how you could achieve flush mounting with the SP10 due to the mildly bevelled edges. You would end up with unsightly gaps around the edges.

It has been done but you have to be good with overhanging angles!

The SP8 is a classic! One of my phono stages is a homebrew copy of the SP8's phono stage but with lots of mods... sounds great!
I have never been overly impressed with the Troughline though. I've got loads of em and have worked on even more but although it's a classic in it's own right I've never been particularly enamoured of the SQ. I mainly use a Hitachi FT5500 which I rate very highly.

The Troughline is quite nice in a cozy sort of way. My Accuphase makes it look and sound like a toy and will make good use of the weakest signal with the crappiest of aerials. The Troughline needs to be hooked up to Jodrell Bank to make any sense of anything! The Mk 2 does look lovely though.

I have a varislope stereo pre amp in that styling though (and fully rebuilt) and a modded Stereo 20. Also have the pretty rare Original Troughline which looks nothing like the latter ones, front panel about twice the height for a start and, IIRC, only goes up to 100Mhz

I know the one you mean - I think this one is kind of a Mk 1.5.

Is that one of those so-called 'tuners' that don't have a big weighted tuning knob?!! Just kidding - despite owning dozens of tuners and receivers in the past, I never got past my childhood fascination with an analog tuning scale.

Then you need to hunt down one of the early Grundig Yacht Boys. They have a tuning scale to stare lovingly at.

The lower one is one of the devices that got me hooked! It was the place names that got me as a kid - to think that you might you might turn a wheel and hear someone talking in a different country seemed amazing. Later on I had a small collection of glass scales scavenged from various different units - I still have a few. Sad but true!

The Goldring G99 project is approaching a major milestone now. One of our members (Carl) is building me a new plinth and, from the photos I have seen of it, it's going to look fantastic. I didn't actually realise that Carl was a TAS member. Even after we had been discussing the job for a week or so, and had met to get the thing underway, I was still oblivious! Anyway, the thread cataloguing the G99 project is here: Goldring G99: Works

The plinth has been here for a week now and I'm bracing myself for a major re-organisation of things today. I have to find a way to accommodate the LFD phono stage and its power supply and that's going to cause some upheaval. G99 with new plinth, Zeta and Koetsu Black. This Black is an old original, still going strong with a van den Hul retip.

We spent a massive portion of last weekend pulling apart and rebuilding the system into a new arrangement. We were jumping over components and trying not to trip up over cables for almost two full days. Why is it that when you do something like this that whenever you need to pick up ANYTHING, it's underneath something else.....then you move the something else....then you come to find later on that you need to pick up the something that's under the thing you put on top of it?!?!?!?
The system is almost completely rebuilt now some tidying up of cabling is required but major components are in their new positions and it looks a lot better.

Getting a Slice of Raspberry Pi
Moving slightly away from matters analogue for a while, I've just started to gather some of the bits and pieces necessary to begin a Raspberry Pi project. I'll be using the HiFi Berry Digi+ thingy and I've been trying to find some alternative cases that will accommodate the two boards - wondering if anyone knows of anything?

I bought the HiFi Berry case. I'll be starting on mine in the next few days too.
