Looking for vids on the Technics SL-P1200 (Friday, Jerry.), I found this chap. Has loads of mint vintage gear. Must be high up in the Russian Mafia.
Great sound. Like it when he moves forward with the camera and you hear the sound change.
Quite like the Coral, Technics and Yamaha speakers. But for probable cost and domestic setting, this Akai amp and Sony speakers would be my choice. Not bad for a 2.5W/channel. It's a valve power amp with semiconductor pre. Has phono input and tone controls. Dates from at least 2008. Don't think it was aimed at the hi-fi market, rather the pro audio one. Has an instrument input on the front panel.

The pair with the large and unusually shaped bass drivers are Yamaha NS20's Martin, those to the rear are Technics SB-1000's

Thanks. I meant to type 'those' not 'both'!

Ah I see, I thought you meant both 'those' speakers I love those Yammy's, such an unusual design...and that bass driver! (0.0)

Is there any info on those Yamaha drivers? I'm intrigued.

Some people say they were shaped like an ear, others see a grand piano when they look at them! I think Yamaha made quite a few drivers with this shape for a while - not just hi-fi models, but pro stuff and even the drivers in some of their organ and bass guitar amp speakers. Also one or two other manufacturers bought them in for their gear (TEAC being one of them, I think).

Thanks, Chris. Googling NS20 was next to useless.

I know there were other driver numbers than those. For example, they did a little desk monitor with that shape of driver too, so it wasn't just those massive things in the video.

They date from 1968 and the NS stood for Natural Sound and was the origin of the slogan they now have. The diaphragm was Styrofoam. Other models included the 30, 230 and 250.
Information at europe.yamaha.com. I googled " Classic Yamaha NS-20 Speakers" and searched images.
Sent him (Alex) a message thanking him for posting the videos. He replied saying he was moving into a bigger studio and hoped it would allow him to improve on his videos.

Look quite neat, Shane. Less convinced regarding their sound though. Although it's hard to arrive at any definite conclusion as to their actual quality of sound.

I found the Elac guy both slimy and annoying. If he was demonstrating anything to me, I would already be far less receptive after listening to his patter. Reminded me of the worst "salesman" I have encountered in hifi shops and at hifi shows over the years. Weird semi-comb-over and manic hands didn't help either. Not my cuppa. Also, his choice of music for demo reminded me of the Bose Wave salesmen when they get on QVC or Ideal world shopping channels. By far and away the worst hifi video I've seen so far.

Bit harsh. Didn't really think of him as being slimy. My attention was focused on what he was saying , and not his manner. Was a bit surprised at his comment that getting old seemed to equate with wanting cheap speakers. And I was waiting wiith baited breath to hear what they would chuck out. Wonder how much they will cost here. Think I'd rather have the vintage Sony SS-A5s though.
