I still have it ;-) I'm building an LDR pre amp. I'm borrowing a Stereo Coffee, which I am very impressed with, I upgraded the volume pot and changed the Walwart to a regulated supply to great effect. With that in mind I thought, sod it, let's go for broke and build the best one I can. LDR's have also caught my attention, I really like the concept and think they're superb VFM. I've just caught up with your thread so I'll refrain from bombarding you with questions and wait for your posts. I have/had been put off LDR's following the AoS Pre Amp Bake-Off thread so I'd be interested in your findings compared to your Epoch.

Hi Darren I thought about how I could compare all the Pre Amps in the world (well, too damned many) and took the lazy way out. I prefer to buy the box and not fiddle around I hear you Mike, when I first bought the Techy I thought I'd have everything sorted in 6 months but that was due to sheer ignorance, I didn't realise just how many options there were or how different everything sounds, let alone think about tuning the system to a sound I like. I too would prefer to buy the box and not fiddle around, this is why I've been as aggressive as budget and time allowed with equipment changes. In the last year I've spent most of my time listening to the equipment, not the music and (having got everything else to a stage I'm happy with) would really prefer to not spend the next 12 months swapping Phono/Pre's. I'd heard Martin's. It sounded great, was persuaded by the SS v's valve argument and haven't looked back. Helped that the top end Naim was around £18000 and I thought that was too much There are also a few who don't believe it is good value £18000, crikey! The XP-20's out of my budget, I'd like to be around £1000 for a Phono/Pre so a long way away. Supports/coupling/decoupling/damping is still an area I'm getting my head around. Current set up is all the boxes either on Stillpoints (2), Black Ravioli (1), RDC cones or RDC cones with bases sitting on top of glass on Mana racks and soundbases. As of next week there will be one of Steve's (Electric Beach) S1NX platforms under the Technics and the Isis with RDC and other items tried out under and over the platforms. Sounds insane, looks weird but it sounds great. The idea, for simpletons like me it seems is to get the each piece of kit somehow isolated from the rest and the rest of the world isolated from the kit Isolation is something I'll be investigating I currently have everything sat on sorbathane pods as they're so cheap and I've found they've offered an improvement from just sitting the equipment straight onto the glass. My plinth design for the garrard will have 3 tiers to enable me to experiment with different platform materials and footers so they'll be plenty of (IMO ridiculously expensive) options to experiment with arriving in the near future. Music first for me, followed by laziness and lack of patience. The Technics did it for me. I'd heard it sounding wonderful so got one and started modding. Are you talking about a Pre Amp and Phono Pre Amp ? Sorbothane ranks above cheap cones for me but RDC is noticeably better under almost any box. Not dirt cheap by very good VFM. Worth a punt to test and I think you will move to RDC

Agreed, RDCs have worked wonders for my system.

I have a B1 I was going to put up for sale, you can have first dibs if you like. PM me here or AOS. Has good caps in it, and is wired with silver foil. Hi Wobblechops, are you Ali Tate? Hi, yes, sorry, forgot to say.

Are you talking about a Pre Amp and Phono Pre Amp ? Yes, I am talking about both a Phono Stage and a Pre Amp, preferably a one box solution, hence the appeal of the Croft Micro 25. Sorbothane ranks above cheap cones for me but RDC is noticeably better under almost any box. Not dirt cheap by very good VFM. Worth a punt to test and I think you will move to RDC Agreed, RDCs have worked wonders for my system. I have seen the thread on the RDC's, they look interesting and not crazy money. Do they need to be matched to the weight of the equipment they are intended for as with sorbathane? E.g. the threaded RDC2's would be ideal for my Oppo, but would the Oppo be too light?

RDC 2 are good for smaller lighter components, 1 for bigger beasts. Always use three and balance the weight of the item.
Hint: sometimes they are hard to get hold of, in which case buy the threaded ones and unscrew the threaded stud.

Thanks Martin, I saw their maximum weight was 25KG, didn't know if there was a minimum. The threaded cones appeal for the Oppo to replace the stock feet as it doesn't have a flat base.
