Had a very enjoyable day at Garys today. We were seeing what difference a few cables would make and inserting a Cappela HPA in front of a new mini t and a new psu Brian had purchased, would make. Gary has the best digital front end I have ever heard with one of his top notch KORUS servers/Eddingdale speakers and top notch Young dac/psu. All cabling is top notch. The mini t really does an amazing job driving the big speakers to krackatonian levels-flap yer trousers stuff. The new psu made a noticeable improvement in control and finesse. The Cappela again upped the performance letting the mini t work less hard.
great tunes/fun had by all.
Gary let me briefly hear his vinyl set up....it was everything I feared it would be-sonically on a par with digital but noticeably different.
t amps rock!!!!!

Aye good to see you today mate . The board meeting was a bit different today because we only used one amp - a little Amptastic Mini-1 . Right from the off it sounded very good driving Garys big Edingdales . I must admit that I was quite surprised at the extent of the improvements when the Linear PSU was plugged in . In short , IMO , this PSU takes the Amptastic into another league . There were improvements in all areas and they weren't subtle . This PSU is very good value for money . Another large and very audible improvement was heard when we plugged in the Beresford Capella headphone amp , using it as a preamp in front of the Amptastic . Suffice to say that I will be purchasing the Capella as soon as funds allow . All in all a very musically rewarding day , particularly for me as I'm the owner of the Amptastic and the Linear PSU . Gary has them on loan at the moment , but I can't wait to get them into my system along with the Capella . This is a wonderful combination folks. Many thanks again to Gary for the hospitality and the good food , and for providing us with the use of his fantastic system for the day . It was also nice to see Grant again and have a chat about all hifi . Great day

Always good to get together-no bullshit assessment of changes is a breath of fresh air. The glass optical was a lesson in itself. The mini t continues to suprise- let us know how things progress when the active is placed in front of it......let Gary burn that psu in for you!!!!

Any ideas how the PSU compares to using a battery with the Mini T Hey John , I've used the Amptastic with a 12V car battery and ,if memory serves , the PSU is better by quite a margin . I will however have to get the Amptastic back into my own system and conduct further tests to confirm this. The star of the show was for me , however , the Beresford Capella used as an active preamp in front of the Amptastic . Absolutely fantastic .

I preferred the mini t on battery to a maplins psu at my place but the boys gave the psu the nod. Very much personal preference. I tend to like a more unforgiving/revealing sound maybe more hi -fi- Gary and Brian have an ear that lets them appreciate the emotional contact more than me.

Amptastic products appear to be going from strength to strength. I'll have to plumb my mini-T into the system sometime as I've not heard it driving my MA's as yet.

Fantastic day as always, no bullshit mano a mano commentary, been doing this a few years now we can say a spades a spade if need be... The combination of T-amp, PSU and Stan B's Capella as a preamp surprised us all.
My Eddingdales sounded like there was a 150 watt mono-block system driving them! What seemed like effortless grunt, power and control was making us all say WTF!!
Spleen rearranging (yet absolutely controlled)levels of bass depth and control driving the music, not the hifi....it was almost physical. All of us were amazed at how the TAmp drove the speakers.
A great day as always...the Mini-1 T Amp driven by a seperate, PSU and Capella preamp (seriously)shocked the shit out of us all.
...and I've discovered a glass optical is the best connection for my Transporter, BNC coax not as good.

It was Tony's Mark Grant one John. Unfortunately I don't think he does them anymore, so looking for an alternative.
Only used (as wasn't too impressed by) plastic ones before, seems glass optical cables are a different beast altogether.

Stans optical is very, I have one doing duties in my AV set up. The glass one Mark Grant sold is noticeable better than any I have tried. It weened me off expensive co-ax!!! I was interested to see if the glass would translate to another system as Stan has done a lot of work with optical implementation in his Dacs-it worked really well with Garys young dac and sounded to our ears a step up from his BNC cable.
I believe Jerry has located a reasonable priced glass optical on amazon (profi gold if memory serves)-well worth a try IMHO.

Belden 1694A Chris, 1.5m long. Canare BNC conection. Bought the cable from Bluejeans.
Sean Adams of Slimdevices has been on record as saying BNC is the best connection for the Transporter so went with that. As always hearing it with your own ears and in your own system makes all the difference and as much as it pains me to say it, the glass optical was better. Not night and day, but according to the benchmark I always use, you miss it when its not there.
Never got on that well with Optical, always preferred coax but never tried the glass variant. Having heard it I can say it's better. (as in worth having...)

If you're hearing a difference I'd venture that you have some kind of noise breakthrough issue via the signalling ground. It could be the SMPS in the Transporter that's causing it. Sean Adams reckoned that he'd never heard the DAC in the Transporter bettered by an external DAC too
