I'm canvassing for a list of the most stupidly worthless, pointless things in hi-fi. My vote goes for gold plating on optical connectors.

I think this is a game I'd better not play. But gold plating on an electrical connection wouldnt be top.

OK. You win. I daren't play. it is passing a current. Granted unless you leave it in the sea for a year or two it is unlikely to corrode enough to benefit, but all gold plating does is offer corrosion protection. No - I'm not getting drawn...

Stick to accountancy Pinkie. It's an optical lead. No current passes through it, just light impulses. The gold is only there to pander to audiophile sensibility.

Granted, gold plating is somewhat twinkly, but you'll have to do better than that to convince me that it will make the cable any better, Richard.

Not what you were after but for me it is all the trolling and pointless bickering, just go and listen to some music. Hopefully I am safe saying that here .

For me, it's circular arguments and the insults and personal baggage that often follows. Haha I just saw the post directly above

Gonna have to grant you that gold plated optical is a front runner. My reluctance to play has more to do with a few other candidates rather than my desire to defend that one. But I'll try to pay better attention in future

My vote goes for gold plating on optical connectors. Oh dear just checked and the optical connector I just ordered does have a "Corrosion resistant gold plated full metal connector" LoL I agree a complete waste, but at £6.39 for a 6M cable I don't think I have anything to worry about.

Of course, it's not to say that it won't be an excellent cable, but it's clear that you see my point! Bargain price too!!!!

Hard to top that one, although I'd put a vote in for a. cable elevators (the things that raise your speaker cables above the floor - even if they work they're never going to fit into a domestic situation) b. wooden equipment supports (again I've no opinion on whether they work, but they cost £20+ per set and I could make them out of scrap wood for a few quid)

After market mains cables! Ah. That was one of a couple of places I was trying hard not to go. I'd forgotten you were here to go there for me.

Super after market PSU for broadband router/hubs (unless replacing a faulty one)
Someone tell me their system became night and day different after fitting super Cat5 cabling
shout me down for relating my experience - super USB cables with plugs that fit worse then the freebie you got and sound no different.
